philmayfield 6,180
I see that the timber framed Severn’s building on Castle Gate has recently been sold. I believe it was once used as a lace museum. It was originally located on Middle Pavement but was dismantled in around 1970 when the Broadmarsh Centre was built and relocated to the present site. I remember dining there with my parents when it was a restaurant. That must have been around 1960. The building itself dates from the 15th. century. Just trying to help out with the dearth of postings today!
Beekay 5,172
Adding to the above, but correct me if I'm wrong but was there a restaurant above Woolworth store, next to Sawyers arms. I seem to remember taking Tina Teaspoon up there for afternoon tea. Is/was it bottom of Wheeler gate.
Jill Sparrow 10,307
It was a lace museum. When I was teaching, educational trips to the Castle always included a look at Severn's building. I wonder what its future will be now.
Cliff Ton 10,477
I've always thought it looked daft in its current location. It seems to have been dropped at random, by someone with their eyes closed. https://maps.app.goo.gl/KWC5zmHSLBVRgzRs5
