Hello from Michigan!

Hello to all!

I am Eric Marshall - I was born in Arnold in 1951 and moved to Long Eaton in 1957 when my dad took a job with Long Eaton Co-op. I went to various schools in Long Eaton - Derby Road Infants, Longmoor Primary, Wilsthorpe and the Grammar School. I left the Grammar School after A-levels in 1970 and went to work for the NCB as a student apprentice mining engineer.

I worked in mines in Coalville and Donisthorpe, and went to college at North Staffs. Poly. in Stoke-on-Trent. In 1975 I got fed up with the NCB and went to work for BPB Instruments (part of British Gypsum) in East Leake. They specialised in coal exploration and after working in England and Scotland for a while, I was sent to South Africa for a two year tour in early 1976. I returned in January 1978 and worked at East Leake until October when I came to the U.S. - I have been here ever since!

I now work for a small consulting company that specialises in accident investigation and reconstruction. Most of the work is for product liability litigation. I live in South Lyon - a small town about 30 miles northwest of Detroit, Michigan.

For fun - I own a small airplane and love to fly when the weather cooperates. I also have two MGBs - a 1971 GT and a 1974 Roadster - I have rebuilt most of the roadster and the GT is undergoing a rolling restoration - including the installation of a supercharger! I also brew beer - it is the only way to get a decent pint on this side of the pond!

That's about it - I do get back to England as often as I can - typically once/year - and I am always up for a pint somewhere when I am there. I also take those opportunities to load up on Steak and Kidney Pie!

One of these days we are going to have to get together then Eric, I used to brew gallons of beer at a time. I'll recite a funny story about my best bitter one day to you!

Now your talking my language, I partake in a drop every now and again also I too brew my own, not on a vast scale more like a Vat scale, not really just joshing me old mucker.

We do have meets with our overseas members and I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t have one when you come over, any reason for a drop of the real stuff, that’s what I say, the poacher on Mansfield road is a popular place to meet, do you know of it Eric?

Our Cali Gal is coming to see use at the end of March [Elaine] so folks make a note we want as many as turned out the last time to attend Elaines meet which I reckon will be in the Poacher. Great! And lets hope Micks got his drinking head on this time, he owes me a pint. :Friends:

Unfortunately, this will be a short trip, mainly to see my 94 year-old Aunt in Heanor. British Airways had a deal I couldn't refuse!

Anyway, I will be driving up from London on Friday, March 23rd, and I fly back on the 27th! If any of those evenings are possible, let me know but unfortunately I cannot promise anything at the moment.
