Ayupmeducks 1,730
I hate to say this Mick, but thats the last bank I'd ever deal with, the trouble we had with that bank would make a novel!
mick2me 3,033
Can you recommend a good bank that is located nationwide? or at least in Ca & Fl.
bamber 128
Why do you need to open an account with a US bank? You can use a Visa Delta debit card - I have one issued by Cahoot - at ATMs worldwide. Just watch out for the forex charges.

Ayupmeducks 1,730
Both BOA and Wells Fargo are off our lists Mick, can't help you, my wife deals only with a small local bank down here. Maybe one of the other members who live over here have had good luck with their banks and may be able to offer the name of a good reliable national bank here.

Hi,my bank is great,so don't waste anymore time trying to setup another account, just have your large sum of cash sent straight to my account and I'll enjoy it for you! Sedriously though BoA are pants,so too are Fifth Third Bank(worst bank name ever?)IMHO. I currently use TIB(The Island Bank)here in SW Fl,but they are a fairly localised bank and you may not have them where you are. Wachovia is a big name bank and they seem to be held in fairly high regard. Drop me a line if you need any help from this side of the pond(Naples) Adam
mick2me 3,033
Thank Adam for the kind offer. Reminds me of the email that I sent to The Monster Raving Loony Party. I noted that the did not have a shadow Chancellor. I offered myself for the post. Even offered to merge my savings of four pounds nineteen and sixpence with their funds. (Obviously worth more at that time - 1996). They did not reply, perhaps they thought I was too mad? Wachovia have local branches in Ca. will have a look on my next visit. Limey 242
How's this for American bank customer service: Last Saturday I walk into my local branch of Comerica Bank to deposit our state tax refund check. "Sorry" says the teller, the check is made out to you and your wife, you will need to have her sign it on the back before we can deposit it. O.K., says I, and go home. Mary signs the check, but by then I can't be bothered to go back, so today I go to another branch and they tell me "we can't deposit this check, we don't know that your wife signed it." I tell them I was told all she had to do was sign, but no dice, they won't deposit it! "She has to be here", they say! "Why" says I - they can't answer that one! I will say I have had it with Comerica. Charges every time you do something - now they want to make it as difficult as possible to put money INTO my account - how stupid can it get? Beefsteak 305
I have been in credit (with an agreed overdraft of £1000) with the Yorkshire bank for donkey's years, never used it, and I always struggled to get a monthly statement from them. I come back off of my jollies to find two statements from them (In one week!!!)because I am overdrawn by £340 .They are not asking for their money back, just jogging my memory I think!!!! Limey 242
I am awaiting the opening of the Long Eaton Branch? Good luck Mick! But speaking of Long Eaton branches, I had an account at Lloyds LE branch for many years. They were great and always very helpful. When I moved to the States I asked them to put my money into a savings account and tranfer money to the checking account if I wrote a check. "No problem" they said, and provided the service free for many years! The same service here cost $25 everytime they have to transfer funds! I need a new bank!
