(Sir) Michael Bishop on the right...I think...

Could it be Tom Wheatcroft, of Donington fame?

But that is Leics... pieinface

My knowledge of Notts aviators begins, and ends, with Albert Ball VC.

Cheers

Hi Rob,

No, not Tom Wheatcroft.

Sir Michael Bishop is on the right, guy in the middle is from Schiphol Airport.

The guy in question had an aviator background but should be known for his work on the ground. Bishop had the planes, Schiphol was a destination. What did they both need in the UK? Perhaps think along the lines of your last question??

Was he something to do with the discovery of radar??

I knew the guy who did the radar installation at East Midlands when it first re-opened in the 60's - but that's not him!

Hi Limey, you are correct, it's not him.

The airport was built in 1964/5 and opened in April '65, the guy in the image was the first director, Googling should give you his name.

Finally, the clue I've been waiting for.

I've been looking at his mug since this thread started and I knew I'd seen him somewhere before. I worked for British Midland at the airport in 1974-75 and it was all vaguely familiar

The answer is !englandflag! ERIC DYER
