Just a quick heads up for those that might be interested, Natalie Duncan is on the Jools Holland show this week (Tues/Fri); she will be in the company of some very big names - the Muse, Beach Boys, Public Image Limited and The XX. Hippo Girl, forgot to ask - how was the show?

It's sad to see Dandy disappear, it will be interesting to see how they make an online version work. As a footnote, my wife is actually related to Dudley Watkins, creater of the mighty Desperate Dan.

Fascinating, it could well be, I wonder if the people in the pictures are pupils? -
Perry Road / Edwards Lane Junction

I know the area well, I've spent most of my life in Sherwood - been to a few parties up that way over the years. It's a lovely area to live but way beyond my mean. I've just done a quick check on Google and it looks like some of the tree line still exists but I doubt anything of note is viewable from street level. -

Fascinating map, I might have a walk up Burlington Rd and see if I can spot anything. I assume it's long gone since there are newish houses (1950's?) on that corner. -
I've been looking at some of the Aerofilms images of Sherwood that have been put on-line, I'm puzzled by one particular building that I can't identify. In the centre, approximately a third of the way up is a rather grand looking building surrounded by a circle of trees, it is close to the junction of Perry Road and Edwards Lane - a church, perhaps? The road on the right running up the picture is Mansfield Road. Anybody got any idea what it was?

We went last year and had a great time; on the day we went, there were a group of actors there re-enacting events and telling their life stories.

I think we all remember being allowed to stay up late for this momentus event. I love the statement made by his family,

The new design looks good to me.

Talking of Lancasters, I looked out of my window this afternoon and saw this - Fortunately, I was cleaning my camera at the time and managed to get a quick shot. I think it was heading to the Arnold Carnival.

Following on from earlier post about Jake Bugg, here's another local musician on the verge of making it; the beautifully soulful sound of Natalie Duncan.

Budgie were regulars down at the Boat and I saw them quite a few times, I remember on one occassion they were painfully loud. I think Trapeze and Robin Trower were my favourite visitors. Interesting, there have been a few live albums recorded down there, those that spring to mind are Trapeze, Strife, Crawler

It's about time the county had a museum about the Civil War - after all it did start in the county and Charkles I also surrendered here.

Such sad news, RIP Kat.

A young lad from Clifton, Nottingham, currently getting some airplay on the radio and he was on the Jools Holland a couple of weeks ago. Reminds me of Guthrie / Dylan and that's not a bad style to follow.

That's a great photo Radfordred! ;-) I think people forget the old slab square had become rather tired and was in need of a major overhaul. It was also good to see traffic removed from the Long Row side and as for the OMS toilets, they were disgusting and should have been shut a decade earlier by either Health and Safety or the Vice Squad. I don't mind the new version although I admit it would have been nice if they'd perhaps planted a few more trees or installed some modern art to break up the greyness. The move to a one level square is the obvious improvement and that has helped in the

The Severns building as well as 43-59 Castle Gate (former costume museum?) have all been put up for sale. I dread to think what will happen to them. http://www.brutonknowles.co.uk/property-finder?view=property&id=2020

It's a car park built on wasteland! Perhaps they should have adopted the style of the car parks at Broadmash and Arndale - plain boring concrete. The car park is part of the southside regeneration project - http://www.nottinghamregeneration.ltd.uk/nottingham-city-projects/southside I think Nottingham is lacking in adventurous architecture and I'd love to see more built on the derelict land around the station and at Boots island.

I know it's current but not a faded one but the best one around at the moment has to be the one in Sherwood on the corner of Winchester Street, it shows what can be done.

It looks great when the sun shines on it and it's a lot more interesting to look at than the other city centre car parks.
