  1. Anyone remember the TV series 'The Human Jungle' in which he played a Harley St psychiatrist. It started with him giving a narration of the story of a particular patient and then the episode started.
  2. Anyone remember those lozenges he used to take. They were in a metal tin and when he spoke to you close up, his breath made your eyes water !
  3. Hi Jill. I was a member of the Meadows Boys Club drama group under the direction of John Shooter, I remember Su and the Co op Arts very well. It was always clear that she would be destined for greater things, due to her natural talent, enthusiasm and commitment. I remember the Meadows Boys Club as having quite a formidable reputation built on John Shooter's excellent direction, adaptations combined with an uncanny ability, he took a bunch of ne'er do well Medders Lads and moulded them into successful players, one year winning the National Youth Drama Festival and an appearance on T.V. Anoth
  4. Yep, I pretty sure it's the Plaza Cinema On Trent Bridge. It was destroyed by fire and stood derelict for many years. We used to play in the place. It was very dark and spooky with the screen hanging down in tatters and pigeons would suddenly flutter out of crack and crevices without warning.
  5. I remember 'The Globe' near Trent Bridge. I think it was threpence downstairs and a tanner upstairs. I also remember when the fight scenes started between the Cowboys and Injuns, all the lads on the front row would get out their seats and start scrapping in front of the screen, whilst we fired dried peas from pea-shooters at them. I had an artillery one bought from Keevas which was about ten inches long and deadly accurate from a range of about thirty feet. and the ammunition was bought from Days the greengrocer on Arkwright St. Then after the flicks, it was off to Frank Iliffe the barbers on
  6. I was also in the drama group at the MBC along with David Homes, Melvin Smith and others whose names will come to me. The year I joined was approximately 1965. May I say that John Shooter was definately blessed with patience abounding but also he was a very astute and experienced director, who could recognise and nurture that spark of talent even in the roughest Medders youth. His time and commitment established the MBC as a formidible competitor in the National Youth Drama Festivals. During my time in the drama group we appeared on a television prog called 'Action' which was a weekly program
  7. Talking of pub closures, ( again it's probably been closed for some time ) but I passed the Windsor Castle pub at the bottom of Carlton Hill (Netherfield end) and saw it boarded up, I was in a band and the singer was the son of the landlord when it was the old Windsor Castle. In the grand scale of things the pub is relatively new. Do you think that future generations of kids will be taught in social history lessons what Public Houses were and what went off in them. Tis a sobering thought.
  8. I wish I had a quid for every time I played at the 'Runner'I heard that it was refurbed and now open as a foody kind of pub. The Central Tavern seem to be making a play to fill the vacuum left from the demise of the Running Horse but not exclusively Live Music. For those devotees of R&B (proper) the now legendary Colin Staples jam sessions are performed at the Royal Children on Maid Marion Way on Wednesday nights.
  9. How about we set up our own online radio : Nottstalgia Sound with interviews, features, and music vornvorn
  10. Remember Mr Marciniac the Metalwork teacher. Polish or eatern Europe origin, face like a bulldog chewing a wasp !
  11. This is what I love about this fabulous site, so many names, so many places remembered. I don't know what happened to him but I do remember him. Absolutely right such an innovative DJ always pushing the boundaries of music. Remember the ritualistic boogaloo dancing on the stage. and What about 'Swiftie' but I think he was on the door at the Boat where you paid downstairs first. Just want to take a minute to say thanks for producing such a wonderful site and God bless all here. Before stumbling upon this site, to be honest I had been feeling completely dis-enfranchised from all the stuff tod
  12. I was in the loo of the Beachcomber club with the muffled sound of Edwin Starr ' I spy for the FBI' in the background, when suddenly the outside door burst open and in came Stu with his bald head actually steaming. He rushed over to the sink, turned on the tap and thrust his head under it with an " Ahhhhh" One of my most endearing memories of him. Also, anyone remember Kieth Simons, a local promoter and I believe he had an interest in the Dungeon Club. Vaughan
