My Dad was working at the gun factory at meadows in the war and after and had a german POW labourer/helper, he used to come to our house, I vaguely recall him
  4. Quite true re the guys who "unofficially" ran it, one still local to basford, Remember the old shoulder when Harry Blackburn ran it in 1960's then later played a gig there and did a few disco's it was still the SoM night of "The Big Storm" when Southern England devasted, complete SoM chimney stack finished up in the cellar while pub was open! re the wakes, car park was overflow from main fair on Billy Bacon's (field, with altered route of river leen and day brook still there opposite Cowley Street) Can anyone remember the either RSPCA or PDSA mobile vets that parked up one morning a week on

Speed Twin's sister the 350 Twenty one also had distributor thus ( called the 21 as that was size (350cc) in cubic inches, some of the early pre unit big twins has a distributor mounted horizontal behi

  13. far as I am aware goldies DBD34 500 and DBD 32 350 at least came with clip ons? not sure as out of my league cashwise till mid 70's, classy looking but headlamp stuck a bit far out? plus poor mpc (miles to the clutch!) had to slip such such are RRT2 gearbox or rather gearing meant slipping clutch up to about 25mph (would do 60+ in first) I fitted mine with Bigger g/box sprocket I think from B33 which made it a lot better, yes remember both those 2 guys Pete Butler last time I saw him still had his, remember the other Butlers from lower down Northgate? them and Hollands (been trying to remembe
  14. def before the bridge, can recall the green clock on a post there, do you remember when the 36 used to turn at Nottingham Rd/Vernon Rd junction? I think that changed when futurist island was replaced by traffic lights? I can't remember following in use but was there also a turn round at end of eland street opp gasworks gates? seem to recall something of it, plus in later years the pub there renamed the terminus
  15. You was robbed! only joking, Very Nice, a Twenty One judging by the colour? and c/w with pedestrian slicer! there was one thus in Granby Motors (ex Joslyns) Radford Rd just before they shut. The Speed Twin was maroon and these 2 models were unit construction long before the 650's I think the T110 also had bathtub? and the first bonneville had the old nacelle unit if I remember correctly? incidently do you know why the 21 was so called?
  16. Re the triple Quacks The H2 was the 750, the H1 the 500, the 250 was the S1 (later KH250) the 350 the S3 (KH350) we prepared 2 S1's for IOM TT Production, I used to ride one to and from work to run it in Alex George rode one in the race, a local guy the other, general opinion was they were not fast enough, as it was one broke down the the other crashed (not serious) I think however both riders killed in later years races, at time I had a CB72 Honda with brealey smith tank seat, fairing and 2 into 4 exhaust! didn't go down well parked outside showroom, re the 2 into 4, can't recall if one wa
  17. re the Z650 yes they had a reputation but it's only got 2 exhaust pipes! and surely according to the internet (and fact I worked at kawasaki importers) it didn't come out till 1976? their top bike when I worked for them was the the 750 triple 2 stroke ( 0- Casualty Ward at QMC in 6 seconds) Re the 350 Panther, did it have Dowty pump up front forks? the one I had did and rigid back end, brilliant at going round the futurist island but woe betide you if it was a bumpy one
  18. Loved the old sprung hubs! first big bike I had was a T100c narrow fin all alloy motor, v fast had 3 thunderbirds thus later. also had a 250cc twin 4 stroke BSA scooter, bought off guy on forest rd who later got murdered! took flywheel off it, unbelievable revs! like an MV Augusta, instant flat out then back to tick over, went great till it seized solid!
  19. Surprised how many managers etc at the service? though fergie looked like he'd been in the bar at meadow lane? and who knows where Pleat had been! Mcmenemy looked good for age, by the way anyone know what team he played for? Anyway a good send off, lets hope the lads continue their run, who knows we may have a local derby next season!
  20. The Best Looking Bike Of The 1960's? Yes the Continental was a nice looker but that's about all, still had the Royal Oilfield leaking motor with proxy gear selection and lots of gimmicks like wheel discs that did nothing, 1" oil breather pipe (ditto) swept back as per goldie exhaust, rev counter that gave a rough estimate and a tuned speedo that would show 100 when true speed 85 mph. My vote for 1960,s and probably Best Looking Bike Ever goes to the HONDA CB750
  21. The GCR went OVER Arnold Road, the only road over railway bridges on Arnold Rd were the one over the GNR mainlines, another over the single track GNR to GCR from the rathole and the still there bridge over unofficial footpath that used to be the GNR Leen valley lines to and from Bulwell Forest Station and beyond the other side of Hucknall Rd
  22. Hi rob, there were several road over bridges around bagthorpe in later years, 1 on Park Lane, 1 on Brooklyn Rd, 1 on Kersall Drive, There was of course the GCR main line overbridge crossing Arnold Road as well. I must confess I never saw the MR bridge over Cinderhill Rd but walked on route back of Highbury Hospital to Bulwell pre tram marlarky and was guessing re the Bull pub mention (looking at old trackbed route and gaps in old buildings where it may have crossed leen and road) Can trace on google maps route of GNR from virtually opp Hempsill Lane jnct with Low Wood Rd to watnall, around wat
  23. Bagthorpe Junction covered a lot of ground joining the GNR to the GCR, not sure which remaining bridge you refer to though? (Lets have some more bridges still standing?) The Kimberley Stations are still there far as I know, the Midland one used to be a British Legion or similar club, in the bar you were actually standing on the down (to Derby) platform with the stanchions that held the roof still there, but now I think closed and wrecked? tunnel has been filled in. The area where you lot track of the lines is the one where I do too! but not sure what you mean by "Bulwell bypass above the Nut
  24. I have this idea for a book, about a chap who works at Raleigh, has affair with workmates wife, then meets a girl who gets pregnant, in between he shoots woman up the **** with an air gun, what do you reckon?
