  1. Highlight of my life was meeting Spike Milligan. In El Greco restaurant on Alfreton Road. Seem to remember I was wtih some lads from the Gladdo (Gladstone) pub's dart team in Carrington. Cheers
  2. When I left school, I had to leave me part-time jobs at, The Grove Cinema, Tarry's papershop, John's Wood-yard, and Heasons Hardware/Furniture store. I got a job as Van-lad goffer at Whitehead's Robin Hood Confectionery on Imperial Road, Bulwell. The last time I went passed the dilapidated factory building was still there, but the warehousing was being used again. Anyone remember them? Or even work there? Robin Hood lollypops were popular. TTFN
  3. Of course I taught him all he knows yer know. Remember the so called boxing ring at Meadows Old Boys club? It wus me 100% record that impressed him. (3 bouts, 3 losses, all inside two rounds) Hehehe! I was okay until they hit me - the draught from a missed punch used to put me down!
  4. I've had 'Error Message' five times this morning up to now. But refreshing page eventually got me back on track. I'm so glad I don't have to try and sort it though.... totally lost me with the technical thingies. Good luck mick3me.
  5. I wus born int Medders, and have moved around Nott's (some moves enforced, others voluntary). Brother moved to Arsenal London, Germany, Kenya, back to Nottingham for a bit, and now in Hong Kong. Sister moved to Bread & Lard Island, then all over the country, then Italy, back to Nottingham, off to Australia, now back in Bread & Lard Island.
  6. I keep tryin' ter read Sir David Jasons 'My Story' I see he is making a one-off show of his old comedy with Ronnie Barker 'Open All Hours' - presumably with Grenville as the grumpy shop keeper this time.
  7. I visited both of these clubs during me sorjourn with the NCS. At the Ruddington one (Above the dry goos store) I met the Grand Primo of Australia! The Western club was where I finally decided I was crap at snooker, darts, 5's & 3's, and chatting up the girls. Hehe!
  8. I've been done six times this year, by Lidl in Carrington. I wonder if they tell their staff to overcharge customers, and offer the best sneers in the retail world? They're persistent, I'll give em that. They are handy for me to get to, and the reason I keep going there is... I don't know?
  9. The Empire Empire Palace of Varieties opened in 1898 and lasted 60 glorious, racy years, showing risqué comics, saucy ladies, mind-boggling magicians and rock 'n' roll stars, with huge billings including Charlie Chaplin and Harold Lloyd. Read more: http://archive.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Imposing-stately-pleasure-drome-styled-like/story-19582110-detail/story.html#ixzz2lXAvyDb3 I remember Dad taking me to the Empire occasionally. We sat up in the cheaper Gods of course. He's call in Watmoughs sweet shop, and Dad would splash out on 2oz of Nuthalls Mintos! If I was lucky, I;d get one cut in
  10. I spent hours on the swings next to the paddling pool. I'd plan out what I was going to do in the future as I swung back and forth. Unfortunately I didn't manage to achieve any of my set goals - like becoming a millionaire, a fighter pilot flying hurricanes, marrying Sophia Loren, or becoming a lion tamer... never mind. TTFN
  11. I also wear jeans today Commo - but the Primark cheapo's do for me. I just have to take care not to buy the 'slimline' ones - I'd never get into 'em! That's another problem - me Arthur Itis does not like gettin' 'em off and on... Hehe. TTFN
  12. I missed out on fashion I think. Being a drab, dour, old-before-my-time youth is probably why. All I can remember on this topic is the donkey jacket. My stuff (unfashionable as it was) came from Wakefields, Burtons, and John Collier... John Collier the window to watch! Sad innit? TTFN
  13. Interstin' bit on Drury Lane yer might like. http://tgc-gerry4.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/drury-hill-becomes-broad-marsh-shopping.html
  14. We Trent Bridge Secondary Modern Boys were banned from what I think we then called 'The Rock Gardens?' I recall a lad called John Cooksey (son of the cobbler's) pulling of the wings of bees one day before we were banned - you should have seen the size of the stink he got on his thumb! Funny how you recall some things easier than others innit? TTFN
  15. I see they have now got rid of the Naval club to build the new tram extension. Remember the cafe at the top of the side entrance (they ran hot dog stall around town at nights) And Dr Foley's surgery down the alley on the right? Daunting, dank and dark. The waiting room where you had to wait for the dispensing nurse to light the gas fire with a bang? And one of me favourite chippies opposite the entrance, the Friary? TTFN

Does not ring a bell Sir. These ones were made from sea-weed, about 1963 ish. They were packed in loose 20's, like the earlier Peter Styvesant were. You dead on though, they were awful!

Tesco also bought Elmo (a South African company) up, and used the name for a while on some of lesser performing stores. I worked at the Radford Road one for a week or two, during which time a woman brought back a tin of meat and complaint it gave her stomach ache. It was a tin of Kit-E-Kat! Honestly! Hehe...

By gum yer reet too mate! I remember at the opening we had Miss East Midlands (I think that was her title), and Terry Hennesey to cut the tape. We'd worked all night using Woolworths baloon inflaters, and putting coupons in each of the hundreds of balloons, and had a reet job getting em all up into the nets on the ceiling ready to be released - the crowds were given a cocktail stick to burst the balloons with. We advertised coupons for free beans (Cross & Blackwell 5oz diddy tin), toothpaste (Gibbs SR tiny sample tube), Free biscuits (Crawfords custard cream, Bourbon or Digestives (Samp

Yep sure did Sir. (I thought it was Derek Done though) He was managing Tesco's on Goosegate at the time, or thereabouts. A few names I wouldn't mind hearing from are: Ray Miles (butcher), Rita, Brenda, and ? Goodman. TTFN

Quiet right Sir! When I wus working fer Tesco on Granby Street (now Maid Marion Way. My Tesco manager, Ernest Russell Roberts sent me down to take note of the prices of certain goods that Macfisheries on South Parade were charging. They offered me job on the spot! Good job I wasn't tempted, as they went broke a few weeks later. And as for waiting in for deliveries....
  21. The devious world of politics, local and national, never ceases amazing me. Their fiddling and cunning has no bounds it seems. I can't see any alternative system that would work for government. Perhaps the only action would be for MPs and councillors to be honest, moral, dignified and compassionate... what am I thinking? Silly me! TTFN
  22. I did similar to you with the 'stickleback' fishing. But at Clifton Grove. Afraid I did not know 'The Oak in Gedling though. Cheers.
  23. I recall it being renamed the 'News and Cartoon Theatre' I think.
  24. This might be interesting, a bit of history of the Moulin Rouge. http://www.nottinghampost.com/history-cinema-Nottingham/story-12201233-detail/story.html Cheers
  25. Trevor S: Sorry I can't help you with this one Sir. I sure one our fold will come up with the answer, I'd be interested to know myself. Cheers
