  1. I went to the Elite to see Roy Orbison once - joined the queue on the apex of Queen Street, what seemed like hours later - a uniformed commissioner came out and told us that Roy would not be appearing due to having a sore throat! Tsk!
  2. User 1: Thanks for the photo. Brought back some memories of my being sent there on a Saturday to get some tripe and a (cooked) ham bone by Dad. Often I had to wait until they had finished selling sufficient ham, to sell the bone. But I dare not go home without one! TTFN
  3. I wish I could sleep in that long. Wish I could just sleep sometimes. I try to get me walks (hobbles) in regularly to help tire me a bit. I find I can fall asleep at the wrong times nowadays, usually on a bus, or in the waiting area for me blood tests easily. But it's that wonderful moment when one wakes up in bed - and the realisation that one does not have to get up if one doesn't want to... bliss! Cheers
  4. Ah... the Moulin Rouge on Mansfield Road eh? With it's fillums from foreign fields, it's seat changing perverts, heavy smoke/perfume filled atmosphere, and varied charging young (and old) ladies. Get yer fags from Finlays, a drink of Shipstones for courage, and dive into the pit of doom. So me neighbour told me anyway.
  5. I find the best aspect of retirement - was not having to get up for work... nice eh?
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqDcCJsubO4 Interesting youtube on someone's Maylflower. Can anyone remember the one on Derwent Street? Can't remember who owned it. Thanks.
  7. I wus wonderin' abart that like yer see... Thanks.
  8. I meant should I put a piece about our (your) Nottingham Nottstalgia forum on me blog Sir? If so, what would you like me to put on it? TTFN
  9. #5 (I say #5) hehe: Do you think it would be an idea for me to put an ad for our site onto the blog? If so, please let me know what you would like going on it Sir. TTFN
  10. I reckon they based the series on me. Haha!
  11. Sorry abart that. Try telling me fingers that Sir - I talk to em all the time... but do they listen? The awkward things get rebellious to me commands when Arthur Itis visits em yer know. Tsk!
  12. I recall going to the corner shop, not Duncan's, the beer-off on Blackstone Street and getting a half a block of Echo margarine. Once (just once) I remember buying a full half pound of Summer County 10% butter margarine! Luxury that. The bread and dripping with jelly in, spread on the bread and salted was a regular meal for me. Hehe
  13. I've just remembered the one opposite the trolleybus Depot. Can't remember what the chips were like though.
  14. Nottinghamshire Council provides a range of services to cater for children of all ages, and aims to provide quality foster care placements to meet each child’s individual needs in respect of race, culture, religion, disability, bladder control and language. Can you offer a home to this older child with special needs please? “Gerry” Despite a troubled past, TGC is an affectionate child with much to give. He is currently being cared for by The Government Pensions Department but in the interests of our flagging economy would be better suited by having someone else fork out for his upkeep. A
  15. http://tgc6266gmail.blogspot.co.uk/ Mi first attempt at a blog o' Nottingham. Hope you like it. TTFN
  16. Funny you should mention 'Sing Something Simple', I was just talking with my sister today, and we reminisced about that radio proggie, along with The Navy Lark, Round the Horn, Jimmy Clitheroe, Friday Night is Music Night, Hancocks Half Hour etc. Most of these proggies are repeated on Radio4Extra on dab radio regulary. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/categories Cheers middears
  17. Welcome to the finest collection of memories of Nottingham this side of the Urals! I wonder if you remember the Downing family Sir?
  18. Oh yes, was it next to the furniture shop?
  19. Thanks lads. It's been so good last week as well? I'm hoping to get into Epperstone Court in Brdgford - so I'll sort things out when I'm settled in. http://www.geolocation.ws/v/W/File%3AEpperstone%20Court,%20West%20Bridgford%20-%20geograph.org.uk%20-%201279256.jpg/-/en Not feeling up to much tonight - and England losing 1-0 to Germany ain't 'elpin'! Hehe
  20. I see they had a good menu on the board. Did you have a good 'Friar' tuck in? Cheers
  21. Fantastic clip Sir. The first one showed the British Rail offices, with the parcel receiving shed siding in the background. Dad had to go into those offices to collect his wage packet. Thanks.
  22. Thanks. Tried it Sir - 0.37 whatever that means? Lost connection while it was doing the test. Huh! I think I'm paying about £18 a month, but not sure. Cheers middears.
  23. I've been having to do that last night (11 times) and tonight up to now (3 times). Must be patient and sort things out for when (if?) I ever get into warden aided dwellings, then try to get it right once and for all. Thanks. TTFN
