  1. According to Picture the past" the arch survived till the Victoria Centre was built. I think Fine Fare was biilt in 1960 after the Parliament Street entrance to Victoria Station was closed.
  2. Yesterday I bought a 1860 directory of Nottingham from a locol bric-a-brac market. There are over 200 public houses listed: Not many?................. This is for the old town area(pre 1877!) So Sneinton,Radford, Basford etc are not included in the total. There were at that time 4 Blue Bells,2 Crown and Anchors & there wre 11 on Long Row. Also listed is an almort number of "Beer Houses" these did not hame a name

  4. Question: Many years when I was but a young lad there was in a shop somewhere in Nottingham that had a large working model of a trolley bus in the window? Any ideas? It must have been in the 1958 - 1963 period.
  5. Apparently the "gypsum" content in Nottinghams water is what gives Nottingham brewed beer some of it's distinctive flavour.

  7. Yes i am loking forward to volume 3 I am a railway enthuiast but my main interest is Nottingham I currently have about 150 books & about 400 maps + other bits.

  9. Before then ? I think some were installed in one of the department stores in the late 50s or early 60s(Co-op? or Griffin & Spalding?) PS I left Nottingham in 1967 for work reasons & it was before then.

  13. The book I mentioned earlier has internal photos including pics of lights, seating & adverts It really is a anoraks book.

  15. There was more that one kind of trolley bus running in the late 50s & earlly 60s I wont go into all the details ...But Fleet numbers 500 - 601 (KTV 501 - 601) had 3 axles
  16. You could always tell when one was coming by putting your ear on the overhead wiring pole!
  17. Had a Grandmother at each end of the route One on Main Street(Burton Road?)Carlton the other on Middleton Street(off Ilkeston Road)Radford.
  18. I have been talking to my mother (82) and she said the route from Wollaton went down Edward Street, Bath Street & Handal Street.(But only in that direction)
  19. Nothing left of this bit now! although "The Crown Inn" is still there but closed The "Crown" is on the corner of Crocus Street the next street to Waterway Street and is the easiest way to find the location the site of Arkwright Street Station.

  22. Back to about 1895 before Charlotte Street , Mount East street & others dissapeared on the building of Victoria Station (20 + pubs went). The Middle Hill, Garners Hill Broad/Middle/ Narrow Marsh & Weekday Cross areas during the same period.
