  1. firbeck, Check out the linconlshire bird club website, full of the latest sightings in this part of the world including all the birds that have come over the sea to our shores from the continent, there is also a comprehensive photo section which is a great help in identification. By the way, it's just been announced on Lincs FM radio that snow is expected in the region next week Rog
  2. Sorry I got it wrong, the B29 was called the Washington by the RAF Rog
  3. firbeck, B35, is that the one the Americans called the Washington? Rog

  5. Nimrod the same airframe as the Comet over 50 years old Rog
  6. Ayup Beefsteak, I don't think this will be the end for the Harrier, it's too versatile, what could happen though is for the army to use them and form a larger air arm similar to the American system, they have an air force and an army air corps. just a thought Rog
  7. The display Typhoon was up yesterday at lunchtime for about half an hour ripping the sky apart with some very fast and low passes and breathtaking climbs, certainly rattled my office windows, awsome Rog
  8. Ayup Beefsteak, Good to see you yesterday and sorry I couldn't join you but as I said "quite busy" managed to watch the reds through office window, great display, the Harvard and Alphajets are regular visitors to Coningsby and saw them most months last year, there was 4 French Alpha's at Waddo last year, a bit too far off for a good picture but did manage to get one, I'll email it to you. Great pictures you took of the Reds real top drawer stuff, the new lens is paying you dividends. Did your Mum enjoy the day and what was lunch like? Rog
  9. Ayup Mick, It don't refere to the month of May but to the May flower Rog
  10. That was a good display by the Reds to say it's their first of the year, lasted a long time too, about half an hour, I watched it through my office window, after they left Coningsby they went back to Scampton and did the same preformance again, listened to it on the scanner and saw them from the top of our plant Rog
  11. Sand Martins starting to arrive in the Kirkby pits area of Lincolnshire, Oyster catchers pairing up on freshwater lagoons, Great crested Grebe's performing mating dance, Shelduck's paired and looking friendly towards each other, Whooper swans on the move now giving fantastic views as they fly over. Looks like spring has sprung early this year so expecting the Cuckoo in the first half of April Rog
  12. I know Kev It's me age! Head on shot with Pelham bridge over top and Lincoln Central behind Rog firbeck, I think the plate on the side is something to do with "The class of loco" being the world steam speed record holder
  13. You can just make out Lincoln Cathedral in the background to the front of the engine oops already posted that pic
  14. A4 taken today at Great Northern terrace Lincoln, she was 1hrs 20mins late but well worth the wait, got a couple more pics from the same vantage point if any one is interested Rog

  16. firbeck, Didn't have a go on the machine this time but I will next time I go up there, (after checking my spelling with you first), Tornado wasn't on the turntable she was out the back but did have some fire in the box though, It was cab day so I managed to sit in the drivers seat of Mallard, the Bullet train and The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (Deltic) I did get a few pictures so will post them for you when I get a minute, great day out, museum = Free, car park = £7.00 so with a car full a cheap day out as well Rog
  17. Why not get the real Dam Buster story and come on our Aviation day, visit their squadron mess room in the Petwood Hotel and have coffee, then have lunch in their favourite watering hole The Blue Bell and with a bit of luck the BBMF Lancaster might be flying on that day. Contact Sqdn Ldr Beefsteak for details Rog
  18. Finally got a picture of the metal tag machine, this one was a "penny in the slot" as opposed to sixpence, but even so a penny a letter was still quite a bit, I remember spending a fortune at Nottingham Midland on theirs writing out our favorite loco names, Brittania,Duke of Gloucester, and of course Mallard. Any way took this picture at the NRM today Rog Looks like this one has been converted to take the new pence instead of the old pence
  19. You beat me to it Beefsteak, I heard it on the local station today Lincs FM complete with an interview with Martin Withers of Black Buck fame (Vulcan 607) good news at the moment and in this economic climate they done well, however they will need £1.5 m next year so lets hope it keeps flying and attracts as much publicity as possible. What's next Ian? "Concord to the skies" that would get world wide publicity and be able to pay for itself????? just a thought Rog, (looking forward to this flying season)
  20. The connection is "FYNGER" he's read both reports!!! Rog
  21. Hi Kev, With reference to the "Turning point" it was nothing special just a "U" turn in the widest part of the road not a manufactured bit of kit, look on "Picture the Past" for Trent Bridge or Trent Embankment, I'm sure I saw some pics on there of the area Rog
  22. Such a sad time for you firbeck, my thoughts are with you Rog
  23. Hi Kev, The turn round on the embankment was just that, it was wide enough for the trolley buses to come in from Arkwright street and let folk off in front of the toilets then turn full lock to the other side of the road to their pick up points ready and facing the right way to go back to the city along Arkwright street. There was also some bus sheds on Bunbury street which was just through the embankment gates on the right and down there for about 300 yards on the left, I also remember the old tram lines still being set in the road and running into those sheds until the early 60s.
