  1. Hey Caz, is Pauleen Hanson really blonde? I`m in Ladysmith near Wagga. Where are you? I am trying to plan a trip over to ukland next year but want to try to get in as many reunions that I can. Autumn over there seems to be a popular time and I just love Scotland in winter. Are we planning a Notts reunion next year? I will have to see if there is a Mundella one then as well. Regards Andrew Cole. (Hey Mick, just remember, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.)
  2. Hi all. I joined the Royal Navy in January 1964 and was paid the grand and mighty sum of 4 pounds eighteen and threepence a fortnight, but our food and board were supplied. Working at Beecrofts in 1963 got me a healthier 4 pounds two and six a week. Whilst in Australia with my family in 1960, I made three pounds on a weekend cadying at the Royal Sydney Golf Course. That was a magnificent sum for a twelve year old even if I did look 15. I think the adult wage was about 9 pounds then. regards Andrew Cole.
  3. Beecrofts shut down late in 1963 when the old man died and Boots took over the building. Young David opened up another shop in Drury Lane but it was mainly mail order with very little passing traffic. There was no model section. Gee Dees was over the hill in goosegate at the time. About fifteen years ago, I returned to Nottingham (when our band was over there playing in Edinburgh), had a look at the shop (looking very sad and vacant) and tried to find David. He was still in business but working from his home. I found his address but he wasn`t home so just left a message. I also checked out the
  4. Is there anyone out there who used to fly model aircraft with Gee Dee MAC?. I used to work at Beecrofts in Pelham street in the model department, a tall streak with fair hair. I remember George Bradley who flew an `Orion`, Geoff Pike who flew early proportional, many faces but few other names. Lez Blore and Chris ? were the seniors in the Beecrofts model basement. I have a few photos of the clubrooms in Heathcote street, where the Gee Dee shop is now. I remember the front window and have recently obtained the plans for the `Fairy Delta` that used to hang there. I have been building the pl
  5. I was introduced to Bob Dylan music at the `Jules et Jim` coffee shop and still play his older stuff. Regards Andrew Cole
  6. Admin, you say you were an electrician in the `60s. Did you perchance fly model aircraft and enjoy watching the wrestling at the baths in 62 and 63? Regards Andrew Cole.
  7. My first record was an album called `The Folk Singer` and I also purchased it at Boots on Pelham street. I learnt all of the songs on it and still get asked to sing them at festivals here. Talking about Pelham street, I used to work in the model aircraft department downstairs in Beecroft and Sons. I have some photos somewhere that I will scan in and post. Regards Andrew Cole
  8. Alison pointed me towards these threads. I left a new thread in the `60s section. I used to go to a coffee shop called the `Jules et Jim`off Goosegate almost opposite heathcote street, where I would play folk music on Friday and Saturday nights in 1963, 4 and 5 . I recall the owner Rene and his kiwi wife. They lived on a converted MTB at Gunthorpe lock. I left a twin engined model aeroplane in the basement in August or September 1965, just before I came to Australia. I never did get it back. I still play folk music and treasure those formative times. Regards Andrew.
  9. Does anyone remember the `Jules et Jim` coffee shop off Goosegate, almost opposite Heathcote street. I used to play folk music there in 1963, 4 and 5 and remember Rene the owner. He and his Kiwi wife lived on their converted MTB moored at Gunthorpe Lock. I stayed on board with them for a few days once in 1965. That place was my introduction to the Bob Dyllan style of playing and I have never stopped, It would be interesting if anyone remembers those days. Regards Andrew Cole.
  10. Hi Alison, I have just posted a reply on another thread and didn`t recognise you until I saw your photo on your site. My short term memory is still somewhat shot for words but photos seem to find the pathways in my brain somehow.. I am planning to go over next year and visit the old stamping grounds with my sister Janet, who also went to Mundella. How is life treating you? Regards Andrew.
