Granddaughter Chloe been ...and put the pictures below on for me..... 1, Was Marsdens mansfield road..Sherwood.....lovely clean shop back in the 60s........Great Manager Syd Howard one of Colonel Wingates ''Chindits' during second world war.....but always had a smile for everyone........ 2/ Northgate.........Site today.....of where Marsdens was.. again in the 60s...Manager was Mr Horton.......whose Grand son saw my mention of him and sent a photo which is on here a bit back.. 3/ Ex Farrands store..Carrington......did a spell there when i was 16.....lovely shop with

Bit quiet on here.....so thought we'd have a bit of ''Yankee Doodle'' from the great 'Actor' and 'Dancer'' Mr Cagney....... He came to London just to ride the ''Pony's''.

Thanks for that Cliff Ton.........i was only about 16 and spent a couple of weeks there.............the regular 'Granville' was off sick...and they had a very large amount of delivery's most days....and their vocabulary's were very different from Bulwell......like being in another country.......was glad to get back to Bulwell and a few ''Ey up mi ducks''

Both sides of my family were from Bulwell/ Basford and they all used ''MON'T'' as in... 'Gee or'' yo Mon't do that'' else ill getya''............

The only one i worked at in West Bridgford was Boundary road MRS B...........cant recall Melton road...........

Col..did your friend Melvyn Starkey live on Bancroft street ? The reason i ask is i had a school pal named Starkey who lived there...he was a very good footballer.......but he had a brother called Malcolm...who was even better about ten years older..who was a Pro for Blackpool...Chester and Shrewsbury..... Another famous son of Bulwell....who most people i doubt have ever heard of.......... I know ive gone off the thread here.......but his Mam did shop at Marsdens........lol

Hated Metalwork at school.......but made a ''Caddy Spoon'' which i 'Titivated'' with a small Hammer.........still got it.. The 'Caddy Spoon'' that is.............
