I said something about having to wait a long time to get an appointment .He told me there was another cllic open in Asti that was very good and quick. He had taken his wife there the week before. Phoned, appointment made and went this morning arrived there about 9.30 with appointment at 10. At reception they asked for my health card and couldn’t find it but had my ID and they researched it and found it , gave me a form to fill in and before I even sat down to wait they called me by name and I was outside in the car b

Yes Phil I remember the flying club dinner and was sorry to hear about the rabbit. On these occasions we tried to keep the authenticity of Italian cooking and rabbit is so popular and is delicious. My husband was the manager of The Chestnuts. He was there when the fire destroyed all the reception area. A sad affair because he had brought the place back into busy business It went down a bit but soon recovered due to his personality and his professional staff. At one time it was the place to be because all Christmas parties were held there.

Mrs B it the first one was called La Buca and the 2nd was L ‘ Angolo. The 2nd was Roses old garage on corner off New Street , the 1st one was on Shelford Road. Hope that helps. Thinking about it La Buca we opened in 1976 if I remember well. I don’t think we had any receptions because the restaurant wasn’t very big. Not understanding any language can be funny or even devastating . We had a customer who was always telling us about her daughter and how much they loved Italy. I asked what her daughters name was. She explained that she wanted an Italian name that was different from the usual names. I didn’t know how to react when she told me but I couldn’t tell her because the name she had chosen translated to frying pan. The sound of it is quite nice but pity she didn’t find out the English name first.

Small world indeed.When we had the restaurant in Radcliffe we got very friendly with most of our customers who eventually became friends. A an affectionate greeting along with a chat with one particular person had me a bit concerned during the evening because he kept asking various things. Imagine that you can buy Lotus Bisscoff. Biscuits in UK. We love them then I found a recipe for them so decided to make them. First I measured the ingredients then found I had no flour then I had to grind some cloves . This morning set to make them , oops no muscovado sugar but decided to use white sugar knowing they wouldn’t be the same but heyho whatever comes. Ok but certainly not the same, needs more spice and definitely muscovado because they look anemic.

DJ My husband started smoking in his 20’s when he worked in Jersey. Guests in the hotel where he worked always gave the staff cigarettes. So he started smoking them. He promised he would stop when we got married. We went to Scarborough for our honeymoon . He excused himself to go to the bathroom and when he came back, hands behind his back with a thin stream of smoke which seemed to come from behind. You’ve guessed it. Years later he promised my son he would quit when his wife got pregnant and it worked. He’s not smoked since.

Alexa is set to remind my husband at 8am and 8 pm. But he goes out before 8 am to drop my daughter off at work then remembers when he gets back home. 8pm it’s usually me that reminds him when Alexa comes on because he’s usually asleep.

Tablets and me don’t agree. I forget to take them when I have pain or similar. Until the next time , then I forget again.

When we left Radcliffe 24 yrs ago they were starting to build behind our house on fields. Glad we left when we did We only have fields opposite us and we weren’t exactly over the moon when our next door neighbours planted 200 hazlenut trees. But there again we can still see the montains. Progress people have to live somewhere.

While making some fig jam during the summer it became ready to set before I realised but thought it better not to continue cooking it. I put it into jars , left one out to use and put the rest in the freezer. Fig jam because it’s so sweet naturally (I did use 1/4 of sugar needed) and I thought if it was left in storage that it would go mouldy. I did the same thing with kgs of lemons I squeezed.

A few weeks before I got married I got the push . My employers promised to get a cleaning lady to come into the hairdressing salon where I worked. The promise never materialised even after hints and reminders. My girls did the cleaning and sterilization so I told them not to do it anymore as I was so fed up of asking , so after a face to face “ discussion “ I was told to leave.
