  1. He could well have kept us in Division 1 back in 1984
  2. Ian, thanks, he used to post regularly on the Old Bus Photos website, but I hadn't seen anything from him on there either recently
  3. Does anybody know what has happened to Stephen Ford?
  4. Ian, you are correct the Daimler at the top of this page is a CWA6 that originated with Bradford City Transport, NCT acquired four, I believe to start the Clifton Estate services, prior to the delivery of the low-bridge AEC Regent IIIs numbered 199-208 (SAU199-208).
  5. Mary, yes, like many on here I was born at the Firs, and then lived on Deepdene Way for the first three years of my life.
  6. Incidentally, 452, is under going restoration at the Hucknall Bus Museum
  7. Ian, 452, was allocated to Bilborough depot, and services 13, 16, 16a, 32, 56, 60, 62 and 74, which were operated by Bilborough depot used Long Row West as their City terminus. It is likely that 452 was parked as a spare should the need arise to replace a faulty vehicle on one of these routes. Atlantean 586 is in Leicester operating a route that was run for a short time following de-regulation in 1986. I don't know about Gregory Street being used as a learner route, but Bracebridge Drive certainly was as I can remember watching these past my Nan's house.
  8. Dennis McCarthy wrote a fantastic book about Nottingham born celebrities called, "Local Boy Makes Good". I think my Dad still has a copy.
  9. Mick, this would have been after Dad had left NCT, in December '76, to take up a full time post with the TGWU in Burton-on-Trent. If I remember correctly Bilborough closed as bus depot in November 1978 and was used by the City Council for housing refuse and maintenance vehicles.
  10. Martyn, yes I remember Bill Brindley, he was just coming to the end of his career at Notts when I first started going down the lane (first game October 1975, a Tuesday night 1-0 win against Plymoiuth Argyle) and Pedro Richards was staring to play more in Bill's place.
  11. Along with motorway middle lane hoggers
  12. I think that they were phased out during the 1960s. I can remember one on Wigman Road, just past Bracebridge Drive, which was the original terminus for the 56.
  13. The picture of 727 must have been taken before it was impaled on the lamp post at Sneinton Hermitage because it came back in the white livery worn by the Leyland Leopards after repair. AEC SWift NAL545F was the last bus delivered to WBUDC before the takeover.
  14. I remember playing Fulham in the spring of 1976, George Best and Rodney Marsh were in the Fulham side. Pedro cleared out Best, just in front of us and the ref gave Fulham a free kick. Dad shouts out , "Aw dear ref, has Georgie hurt his knee?" George gets up with a big grin on his face and turns and winks at us.
  15. I don't think so. I know Viv Anderson did and also Dave McVey
  16. A typical line up from the period 1975-77: McManus, Richards, O'Brien, Probert, Needham, Stubbs, Carter, Vinter, Bradd, Mann & Scanlon That was a team.
  17. No but I know exactly where I was. 74 Bracebridge Drive at my Nan's house, if I remember correctly the game was held up for about twenty minutes in the second half due to a pitch invasion my Chelsea fans just after we went 2 - 0 up. Dad was going mad as he feared the game would be abandoned and have to be replayed.
  18. In the summer of 1979, Notts were playing in the pre-season Bass Vase against Derby County, the game was played at the Bass Meadows Sports Ground. As a family we went along, and as normal we draped our banner over the railings. The banner said " Arthur Super Bionic Mann", Mum being massive fan of the under-rated Scottish midfielder. (Does anybody on the site remember our banner?) Anyway after the final whistle, Jimmy Sirrell made a point of coming over to us and thanking us for our support. He then asked us if we had an autograph book, my brother happened to have his with him, Jimmy said wait
