  1. Just before Thanksgiving or 2016 we were visited by ICE and they gave us 48 hours to produce all the I9’s (ID docs) etc on all our guys. They then took about 6 months to review everybody before reporting back, it was a bit scary.
  2. I lived in Little Rock for about 6 years and it is more or less the same as Memphis only smaller. Pine Bluff is worse and West Memphis, just over that bridge is terrible. From what I hear St Louis is bad too! Our guys will carry for safety when we have contracts downtown or those other areas. I became a citizen in Memphis, the ceremony was downtown but I probably took my test in that same office - small world.
  3. Agree 100% But my personal taste, I think Punta Cana, Dominican Republic is the best. Been there at least once a year for the last 10 years except for last year.
  4. Memphis is ranked as one of the worst places for murder and crime in general - hence living in a gated community. But we also have Shelby Farms which is the largest urban park in the USA (bigger that Central Park), community gardens that would put the Arboretum at its very best to shame and many community events that are heavily policed - I walk or cycle around these places (my wife runs on her own every day). There are just certain places you do not go!
  5. One more thing - suggest you take a bunch of $1 bills. Tip little but often and they will really look after you
  6. Did you see some of the stuff radfordred posted yesterday?
  7. I’m banned from talking about DJT but you are absolutely correct except for Harold Wilson and Mexican resorts
  8. Last Spring we went to Tulum and later in the year to Cabo and stayed in all inclusive resorts. My daughter in law and her mates are going to Cancun for a hen party tomorrow. For us, Mexico and the Caribbean is a bit like you guys going to Spain - no problem unless you look for it. You will have a great time, the beer is decent, the food, the beach and sea are great. Don’t drink the water, drink beer out of the bottle and don’t have ice in your drinks outside the hotel.
  9. Pools are a pain in the ar**. When my kids were younger we had them and even though we had a maintenance contract, each year something would go wrong that would cost money, not allow us to use the pool for a while or require me spending all my Sunday afternoons messing with it. Or all 3. Then to top it off, as the kids got older they would go and hang out at the community pools because it was more fun (just like going to Bulwell Lido). I now live in what they call here a zero lot gated community. The front yard is filled with trees, grass and plants and maintained by the community. My ba
  10. Spent many happy hours there a kid and some dodgy ones with the locals
  11. Talking about ticking off the snobs Do they still have the Rec on Radford Bridge road
  12. Don’t remember the sawdust but I was half blind when I was in there. Those bouncers at the Palais could be vicious!
  13. Its not me that wanted to go (its the Wife). Last time I was there in the late 80’s had to buy a whole load of new underwear
  14. Have you tried Expedia. Were going to India in October and got the flights and insurance through Expedia and it was only a couple of hundred $ for health, travel and trip cancellation
  15. Are you still standing Yates’s has either gone up market or Whetherspoons have gone down. The thing about Yates in Nottingham would be the contrasts, Kings downstairs was quite posh, the main floor was almost the equivalent of the wild west, with that string quartet playing on the balcony.

  18. I agree, as we used to say "any port in a storm". I’ll walk around Sainsbury's or Morreson’s or any other convenient place to buy stuff. In fact last night I put Moressson’s mint sauce on my lamb chops
  19. That lot probably live in West Bridgeford or Edwalton and thought (thepairofteef) Berni Inn was dead posh. Whatever happened to crusty cobs, cream slices, custards and bakewell tarts.

  21. I don’t know what they imported except it was the cheapest in town. We would go there first on a night out even when we would sometimes be going into the shire. I can’t remember the night, I think Wednesday, we would go to Hucknall Miners Welfare for their dance night. We would go to Yates first, load up and buy a bottle to take out then on to the Miners Welfare. I sometimes wonder how I kept in on piece with some of the surf we got up to.
