  1. Well done Brenda ! Very impressive and I like your ingenuity with the power cut. A Diabetics dream.
  2. Once when delivering Birds Eye, had to go to Griffin & Spalding staff canteen which was on the top floor. This was accessed via a passageway on Long Row up to their back entrance, using a small lift. I hated doing this delivery because the lift was operated manually with a small lever and was very easy to overshoot /underreach your desired floor. Sometimes spent ages trying to get it right. I believe the alleyway went all the way up to Parliament Street. Parked the B.E. van on the Long row bus stops, much to the annoyance of the bus drivers. From there, across to Burton's. Is that sti
  3. Totally agree with you Trogg 100%. (until some Neolithic moron comes up with a sarcastic comment). The link to the video slide show was brilliant. Took me right back to the 60s.
  4. That's what I thought Mary, but couldn't remember if it turned down George St. or Queens st. That bit and the bit around Woolies I was getting stuck on. But with bit of help from the club nottstalgia, I'm OK now. Behave yourself and no mugging blokes. Edit. Never rang the bell on a runner but once, on 39 Carlton to Western boulevard, I had an occasion to jump off at Faraday Road and told the driver I was just nipping in public toilet. While there some bastard rang the bell and the bus left without me. I caught the next trolley following and caught up with mine at the terminus. My driver
  5. Aww don't shatter my dreams and admiration.
  6. There you go, my saviour rises once more. Ta, Phil.
  7. I wonder if the vessel, Pride of the Yare came from Norfolk once upon a time? I only ask because that's where the River Yare is. I wonder if she used to do pleasure cruises on the broads, somewhere around Wroxham. What happened to her?
  8. If you pan round on Stuarts link, you can see the first arch where I stood ankle deep in the Trent. I do remember being down the embankment and seeing the water up to the top step. The river was running very fast so as kids, we decided to give swimming a miss. If we entered the water at that point, we probably would've finished up well past the Forest ground. Edit. Thinking about it now, it's got to be before I was 14, as I moved at that time down to Kennington Road (1957) and never swam in the Trent after that.
  9. I think the pile of bricks that I stood on was next to the first arch pillar from Victoria embankment side. They had been working on bridge repairs at that time. The rubble didn't impede on water traffic under the arch, though normal traffic went through the middle.
  10. Sorry about that Phil, that was due to me not reading Margies post properly. I shouldn't have interfered and minded me own business. Apologies to Margie as well for misinformation. Just goes to prove.....I know bugger all.
  11. Thanks again CT. One thing I do remember was, how dark it always seemed to be along Wilford Road. Maybe because it so built-up and confined. It wasn't a very wide road in those days. I've sung in a few pubs down there.
  12. That would be the Pleasure Park Margie. I have an idea it might have been a penny or tuppence entry.
  13. Phil, you really are ticking my memory switches. I remember going on the Pride of the Yare as a nipper. Often used to swim around where the row boats were, (could never afford to hire one though). Used to pile our clothes on the steps there and swim under Trent bridge. Once my pal ran up onto the bridge with intention of jumping/diving off. I was in the water below him when all of a sudden I stood up on a pile of bricks etc. so I was only ankle deep, Just where my pal was about to jump ! Fortunately I was able to shout and stop him. We could have only been about 12 or 13. Happy Days Eh.
  14. Thanks CT. It looks like the 40/47 came up Parliament St., turned left down Queen St.,, passed in front of the council house and turned right on to South parade before turning left on to Listergate, then again it gets confusing. When reaching the Sawyers arms and Woolworths, did it continue on to Canal St. and turn right or did it veer right at Woolworths past what was Barry Noble's entertainment?? Somebody will enlighten me. Don't know why but it's driving barmy.
  15. YES,YES,YES Willow Wilson that's brilliant ! I'll have your kids. Thanks a million. Barrie.
  16. How about a picture Nonna? X
  17. HSR, whereas I've no problem getting around Nottingham (when allowed), last December we went for a fleeting visit via the tram from Toton and I was amazed by the changes. The thing that's bugging me is a bit like an earworm, for some reason or other I feel the need to find out the trolley route of the 40/47, Wells Road to Wilford Road. It's bugging me that I can't recall the route through the centre. Because it was my first solo route, I'll always have fond memories. Changes like Denman Street for example, it used to run from St.Peters St., all the way up to past Highurst St. Now it's just bit
  18. Cheers DDB. Must admit though, we're looking back 58 years, so the mind starts to fog up a bit. After training, in civvies with a regular conductor and getting my uniform and badge, I went with a trolleybus driver who was aware I was a novice. His name was Pete and he was very patient with me. I've been wracking my brains to try and remember the route through the city after passing the Palais and Central Market. Can't think which way after entering Parliament Street. I'm pretty sure we went along South parade, but because of all the changes I'm lost. I know we went onto Wilford Road and down t
  19. Couldn't post it, could'nt email it so my card came this way.x
  20. I beg to differ. We bought some furniture from there and it lasted for years. We bought what we could afford and we were choosy what we did purchase, including, bed, wardrobe, 3 pc suite and sideboard. Couldn't get much else as we started married life in a flat on Burford Road, off Berridge Road. There wasn't an awful lot of room, but it was ours. Rent...57/6d per week.
  21. Do you remember Cavendish? Opposite the Odeon. When we were getting married, we went in Cavendish and was looking at some furniture. I asked, "What sort of furniture could we get with a £70. deposit"? The guy said, " Blimey, for £70 you can have the bloody store"! We didnt buy the store though, just a bed bed and three piece suite etc.
