  1. It is the kindness of people such as yourselves that have helped us through the years. It makes you realise it's not bad world after all. Fly2, I see from your description that you have an interest in steam engines. Me too,and I live only a couple of miles from the Bluebell railway, my missus reckons I'm never happy unless I'm covered in grease and smell of oily smoke. Back on the subject of our sons, one of the saddest drags was handing back Andrew's wheelchair. For ages it was painful looking at the vacant space where it used to stand. Still, we have many wonderful memories. On one occa
  2. Thank you Carni, it certainly wasn't my intention of spinning a sob story or look for pity. I just felt that I was sharing an experience of earlier days and how we coped. It was a privilege to have the boys as long as we did. If we learned anything it was humility. Thank you all for kind words, Barrie and Tina.
  3. Thank you Margie and Lizzie for your kind words, they are much appreciated. It seems such a long while ago but there's never a day goes by when we don't think of them. They were both disabled but Tina and I never regretted a minute with them. Not going to be morose or boring but it's nice to be able to talk about them. The only downer is at this time of year we feel it most that we will never be grandparents. I think I'll advertise for a ' adopt a grandad' or something. Once again thanks for caring. B.
  4. 1969 !! I'D BEEN MARRIED FOUR YEARS BY THEN, with two sons. Alas we lost our youngest at Christmas 1978 and lost our eldest in 1990. They were 9 and 23 respectively.
  5. Hi again Jill, if it's any help ,my cousins name was Yvonne king, (my dad's brother's daughter). My sister in law was Yvonne perry, (she lived on bradfield rd. till she married. She is 12 years younger than my wife Tina. B.
  6. Its my birthday next week Jill. I'll light a candle in your honour ! My sister in law is not a bad old stick, despite manning school doing their best to lobotomise her. She works at queens med. as a haematology consultant (clever eh!). Always said I married the wrong one. As for my cousin Yvonne, well you have to be barmy where she lives in Alberta. Going up to Thoresby hall Dec.7th to meet up with the outlaws. B.
  7. Hi Jill, don't know your age but my sister in law went to manning, as did my cousin. Coincidentally they are both called Yvonne. My sister in law is now 63 and I think my cousin was in year above her so she must be about 64,(she lives in Canada). Don't know if this was around your time but the chance of knowing either of them must be pretty slim. Cheers, Beekay.
  8. I know its a bit late in the day but, is there anyone on here who went to 'bugole in 1958? I was fortunate enough to be in A stream throughout school, finishing up in 4a, (Mr Edwards class). I remember some names eg. Barry Moore, Barry (spud) hallett, Kenny trout, Bruce baker, Clive perry (he was a clever lad!), to name but a few. Although it's 60years ago I remember the layout of the boys school as though it was last week. Sometimes instead of buying a dinner ticket we used to go across Ilkeston road to la Roache's to buy a small loaf and stuff it with a bag of chips, then nip in the toilet t
  9. Margie, when I worked at SPD. One of my delivery areas was Ely. Had a very nice coffee in the cathedral last year, on my way to Thursford Christmas show. Had a very nice teacake too !! B.
  10. Don't you remember me delivering your persil, radient, comfort and sunlight soap etc !! Back in the day. B.
  11. Look out Nottingham, Beekay's coming up in December. Going to stay at Thoresby hall to meet up with family. Will try and have a ride on a tram if possible. Is it worth going into market square?, not that I recognise anywhere any more. Trouble is, nobody seems to remember me anymore.(wonder if I'm still on the wanted posters?). Did nobody attend class 4a at Radford boulevard in 1958?? Cheers one and all !! Beekay.
  12. Thank you Oztalgian, I'll try even harder now I have a comrade in arms 'down under. This one of the things that amazes me, the fact that I can be in contact 24,000 miles away or someone in the next county. It's great to be able to join in on topics and converse with so many wonderful people. I'm filling up now so I'll shut up. Beekay.
  13. They're all great, with custard on !!! B.
  14. I would like to keep posting if possible. I have been away from Nottingham for over 30 years now and though I still have my memories, I would hope I had something to contribute without boring folks silly. I try to get up to nottm. when I can to see my older brother, ( my two younger brothers have sadly passed away). Although I was a bus driver for four years, I hardly recognise the place now with the modernisation that's occurred. I still think that the market square was Better when it had the flower beds and underground toilets etc. I'll never forget my eldest lad being invited to the council
  15. Whoops, I sincerely hope I haven't opened a can of worms. B.
  16. Thank you Jill, I wish I knew where Utopia was then I could come and bring you a saucer of cream/ milk. Then again you wouldn't want a 75 year old recycled teenager flirting !
  17. When one wants to go to bed and turn ones tablet off, does one have to sign out or just switch off the tablet. I realise this sounds daft, but then again I am a daft bu**er. One doesn't want to do it wrong.
  18. Thanks KatyJ, ive just noticed the info above my avatar as changed from newbie to Nottstalgian and colour bar has changed colour. Does that mean I've been accepted into this wealth of knowledge?
  19. Wot the flipping eck are they though?
  20. I think I've just entered the twilight zone, can't keep up hopping from one subject to another ! Throw me a lifebelt somebody.
  21. Was it a Wurlitzer organ? And what the hell is a kunzle cake?
  22. It looks like zimmer frame Margie. Gonna put my order in for one ! Can you get them with go-fast stripes?
  23. Hi L.L., in reply to your question is in truth i dont know. They had a huge array of batteries underneath though. Where we came adrift, Boden st. is downhill so we virtually coasted down and on to Ronald st. We crossed over Ilkeston rd. and i put the poles back on and we carried on to Wollaton park terminus, behind the one we should have been following ! The batteries would be charged up during running. Beekay. Can I add a belated comment on buses, 56, 60 and 13. As an ex driver on these services out of bilborough depot, I seem to recall that the 56 ran every twenty minutes, on the hou
