I remember well, as a youngster, sitting around the wireless listening to the Al Read show. I think it was on about 6.30pm
Another favourite was 'Journey into Space", with Jet Morgan, Doc and Lemmy, starring David Kossov and Alfie Bass among others. These were on the Light programe. These were regulars in the mid to late 50s, along with Paul Temple,
The Range Riders etc. All escapism from the drudgeries of everyday life. We did'nt know of anyone who was rich enough to own a television. Those were the days when we would sit and listen to the wireless while holding a slice of bread on a toasting fork and holding it against the front of an open fire. Toast does'nt taste the same from a machine.

Are you sure it's a cyst, and not a third nipple?
Bet you've got a Golden gun too.

@Alpha, she used work at Birmingham airport, kick-starting Jumbo Jets.

@Marrowman, that is a great link you've posted, regarding lost pubs. Just had a trawl through the various photographs on there and it was quite enlightening. Thank you for that.
Pity there were no pictures of General Havelock ( Ronald st.) Or Denman Inn, ( Denman st) as these were the local pubs when I were a nipper.

I had two brothers who worked at Bell Fruit.

Do you have your own kitty litter Beekay?
Yes Ian, but I always eat it with warm milk. It still keeps its crunch though.
@philmayfield, gives a whole new meaning to the song " Keep your sunny side up".

Got a better idea S.G., shove it in your Tefal and see if that warms it up.

@trogg, and can I assume that you thread the squares onto recycled parcel string before hanging them up. And what's the best way to remove print from yer bum?
Pssst, another tip saver tip for you...Nearly all supermarkets have a big 'charity basket' near the tills. You can get some lovely bargains in there if you root around. Must admit, I get a bit bored with Whiskas and Winalot, ( the biscuits don't dunk very well).

Coo, owd moneybags eh. Top o the range Ninja, all singin, all dancin. Does it bring you an early morning tea to bed as well? One drawback with them is, you have to open the lid every time you want to check on the food, losing heat at the same time. I'll stick with me owd Tower Vortex. Cheers Rog.

There's plenty of others who have done that MrsB. As a lad I knew a couple of kids in my area who would follow a bloke who was smoking, to see if he would throw away the dog end while it was still lit. That way they could grab a few drags of tobacco before it were too small to puff on.

Fancy owning up Trogg. I made a point of not divulging any names. You may as well admit to splitting bog rolls into single ply sheets now, and clear your conscience.

I knew a bloke who used to split his matches with a razor blade.

I don't worry about what the future holds. As a dear friend once said to me, " I look at it this way, how many summer holidays have I got left"?

No Mel., I usually give them away. The kettle I've done for my brother in law. He plans on adding it to an ex drinking fountain, to make a water feature/bird bath. B.

Alas Jill, you were'nt even born when I used to listen to A.R.
I don't think he really made the transition from radio to small screen. His type of humour started to get a bit stale. Others might not agree.
