mick2me 3,033
up til 1970s(or later) Nottingham Coop had at least two staff social clubs. The Southern Club at Ruddington. Church Street I think? Had a wander down on Google street view and cant see the building now. There is a newish Coop supermarket on Church Street, is that where Southern Club once stood? They had another at the bottom of Derby Road. The Western Club.
Paulus 541
I recall going in a social club called 'Western Club', no idea whether it was Co-op owned, but not on Derby road, not sure where it was, probably another 'Western Club'........................... Beefsteak 305
I went to the Western Club a few years ago for a wedding reception (My mate Dave Allen , you know him Mick) I can't recall it being a Co-op place though. What was the big one at the junction of Akwright street and London Road ? Boots maybe ? We used to go there for the 'Donkey Derby' nights.
mick2me 3,033
Yes you are thinking of Boots Social Club. Bryce (The other Notts County supporter) used to go there Re the Western Club. My Wedding reception was held there 19th July 1975. Buffet for the grand sum of 75p per person. TGC 216
up til 1970s(or later) Nottingham Coop had at least two staff social clubs. The Southern Club at Ruddington. Church Street I think? Had a wander down on Google street view and cant see the building now. There is a newish Coop supermarket on Church Street, is that where Southern Club once stood? They had another at the bottom of Derby Road. The Western Club. I visited both of these clubs during me sorjourn with the NCS. At the Ruddington one (Above the dry goos store) I met the Grand Primo of Australia! The Western club was where I finally decided I was crap at snooker, darts, 5's & 3's, and chatting up the girls. Hehe!

mercurydancer 1,104
Yes I recall the Western Club - large snooker hall on the top floor. My dad took me there to play snooker back in the mid 70s.
