Cocaine - The Wonder Drug of 1885

Came across this article in the Retronaut Forum.

It seems back in 1885, cocaine was being hailed as a new wonder drug that could cure anything from seasickness, alcoholism down to a baby's toothache.

Well, Stan, the claim that it can cure asthma, earache and head colds makes this cocaine stuff something that is note to be sniffed through at. :biggrin:

I think you'll find that the 'secret' ingredient is still in Coca-cola....It used to contain Cocaine...but it had to be removed when it was re-classified...wouldn't be very good business to put the name of the 'secret' ingredient in it's title.

By all accounts, traces of coke can be found on most old bank notes.
