firbeck 859
Vera now up and running thanks to a new Merlin from the BBMF, check out the CWH websites, the 3 Lancs event at East Kirby is now rescheduled for a week on Sunday, I'll be hiking up the beach from Winterton in Norfolk to study the seal colony. firbeck 859
Lot's of action around the North and East of England from the 2 Lancs today, go on the Flypast Forum Historic website and look at page 40 of the CWH 'sticky' it will tell you where they will be, I think they could turn up anywhere en-route. I've already sent my cousin off to the seafront at Morecambe where she lives, to see them approaching across Morecambe Bay from Windemere should be quite a sight. bamber 128
Spitfire flew over Nottingham - heading westwards - just a couple of minutes ago. What a sound!!! and I'm the only person who looked skywards.
firbeck 859
Spitfire flew over Nottingham - heading westwards - just a couple of minutes ago. What a sound!!! and I'm the only person who looked skywards. It happens, a few days ago a Spitfire roared low over the Discovery Centre, I ran out the bike hire shop to watch it and noticed all the Park Rangers looking out their window in awe, the hundreds of the 'Great General Public' milling around in the park, didn't notice a thing, and yes, it was very low, fast and noisy, sad isn't it. Smiffy49 590
We get daily fly overs by all sorts of aeroplanes over the house. They never fail stop us looking up, especially the older types. Even the dog looks up when the Lancaster goes over, I think in a past life he was probably based at Scampton..... We sometimes get a lone BBMF aircraft overhead, it will spend a few minutes circling and banking before disappearing eastwards. I suppose with Waddington, Cranwell and Coningsby just a few miles away from here we are lucky (If you like aeroplanes that is). Smiffy

Smiffy49 590
Funnily enough........ no, but when we rescued him his identity number started with 617??? His real name is Buster, he does get into a lot of mischief and is quite bouncy, especially in water, he is then referred to Dam ! Buster! Smiffy
Commo 1,292
Having seen that the Lancs were due to fly over Holmfirth yesterday, we decided to drive up onto the moors above Holmfirth thinking that we should get a good view, but unbeknown to me (although NOT to Mrs C !) all the World and his dog descended on the town for a WW 1 and 2 parade, and it was nigh on impossible to get through, so we turned around and made our way back home, and with the binoculars we could probably still get a long distance view. At precisely 3:17 we heard the Merlins and they passed right overhead, anyone down in Holmfirth or up on the moors would have seen hardly anything!!

notty ash 371
If I've time I might bounce along and watch. Me too - standing up on the moors with the planes flying below me across the Derwent Dam would be something very special!
Smiffy49 590
The two Lancaster's have just flown overhead here near Temple Bruer. They were heading towards Lincoln. Too late with the camera unfortunately ! Smiffy
notty ash 371
Here's a couple of poorish pics of today's flypast at the Derwent Dam. Unfortunately, my camera was not really good enough for this type of shot, but hopefully something is better than nothing... Video of the first flypast here (very shaky - sorry about the ending too, but I have no software to edit it!) Second flypast up the valley Final flypast Fantastic display, with a Spitfire, Hurricane and the two Lancasters - very pleased to have experienced it.
firbeck 859
So pleased for you to have been able to witness this incredible event, I'm so envious, unfortunately I booked my holiday a year ago when the prospects of the Canadians flying their Lancaster over to the UK were unthinkable. It's funny, normally during the summer flying period we see the BBMF Lancaster fly over Braintree on a regular basis, we haven't seen either of them at all this year, but, at least I got to Marham. Tomorrow the Canadians fly back home across the Atlantic, I hope all goes well for them, clearly this tour has captured the publics interest, whether it happens again, who knows. Incidentally, go on to the Flypast Historic Forum website, first subject Canadian Lancaster etc etc final page and look at the video posted on YouTube, it's filmed in the air from both Lancaster's as they approach the dams, incredible.
Trevor S 2,003
Here is the above video that firbeck told us about....towards the end of the video, just look at the hundreds of cars parked below along the roads, in the fields etc. Just wish I had been there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
notty ash 371
Not all the cars were voluntarily parked - the A57 and the road through Bamford were jammed due to the sheer volume of traffic. Here's a few photos taken from the Puma Helicopter, hovering over the west side of the dam. http://forces.tv/86329589
Ashley 288
Think they were on their way to Syria to carpet bomb IS as part of the coalition, Germany is sending The Afrika Korp in with Panzers plus V1 and V2's, Japan is busy building up their one way Zero's fleet, France is drawing up it's collaboration terms whilst Italy hasn't decided anything yet
firbeck 859
Listen in to BBC Radio Lincolnshire covering the Lancs departure back to Canada, they've just overflown Lincoln Cathedral escorted by BBMF Lanc, 2 Spitfires, 2 Hurricanes, lucky people who witnessed this.
Smiffy49 590
They all came over my house from the Cranwell direction heading towards Lincoln about 10 minutes ago. Will they come back this way? Smiffy

Why aren't we in there wiping out this scum of the earth, we should be equiping our Tornadoes with cluster bombs, napalm, chemical and nuclear weapons, a few bouncing bombs, Tallboys and Grandslams from Lancasters aren' t going to do much damage, we need to go in on the ground with flamethrowers, after what these filth do to the local population, Muslim or otherwise, they need sending off to Allah in agony and total persecution. I gather that even the Taliban and Al Queda hate these blood thirsty bunch of evil barstewards.
Bilbraborn 1,594
Trouble with all our politicians. They are terrified of upsetting them. Why not just set the shi-ites against the Sunnis and see what happens. I just can't get my head round anyone wanting to harm others for no good reason.
