On the corner of Mansfield Rd and Bluecoate St. there was Judges bread and cake shop with a green shop front. They made minature Hovis loaves which i used warm up- hollow out and fill with butter. But at the back of the shop was a fantastic 1920's tea shop with lovely period fittings!! Never actually went in it as it was closed off throughout 60's and 70's. Anyone ever been in or eaten in there??

I MANAGED the Thrifty supermarket' on Mansfield rd,Sherwood in 67/68,and remember the shops opposite, one of which was 'Judges' some of the others being,Pork Farms and 'Britons' fruit and Veg.

Other shops on that part of Sherwood around that time were Elmo and Fine fare supermerkets,Wilkinsons,Woolworths and Marsdens.

Hollow out the bread, butter and fill with chips - yummy, scrummy. Used to do this for luchtime when at school. George's chippy on Sneinton Dale used top fill our hollowed out batches for us.

Occasionally bought potted meat cobs from there when with Mum and Gran and took these to eat with a bottle of pop at a pub on Bluecoat Street, can't remember the name of the pub though, anyone remember?
