Compo 10,328
Watching the TV programme about Raleigh bikes last night I heard a phrase I haven't heard for many years. The interviewee said "...dab-in..." I remember it in the context of "If yer don't dab-in y'll miss yer bus...". The meaning being look sharp or get a move on. Does anyone know the origin of the term to dab-in and is it still in regular use in Notts?

He looked ridiculous enough when he was younger. Now he's older, he looks unreal ! Stuck in a time warp or what ?

Chulla 4,946
Remember also that people who were good at something were referred to as being dab-handed.

trogg 2,020
If I remember "dobbed in" when I lived in Bestwood Estate was when some kindly acquaintance stated to persons of interest that you were the person who maybe had some knowledge of some minor insignificant event or occurrence. ie they snitched on yer

Compo 10,328
If you take a look at the Erewash Valley accent just west of Eastwood you will find that "To Dob" is to hit. As in: "If tha's not careful ass'll dob thee one!"
FLY2 10,109
Compo, I think he's sprayed his bald patch black in the middle, as it looked too dark. There's no fool like an old fool !
