That reminds me of the joke A young woman in Liverpool was so depressed that she decided to end her life by throwing herself into the Mersey. She went down to the docks and was about to leap into the freezing water when a handsome young sailor saw her tottering on the edge of the pier, crying. He took pity on her and said, "Look, you have so much to live for - I'm off to America in the morning and if you like I can stow you away on my ship and will take good care of you and bring you food every day." Moving closer, he slipped his arm round her shoulder - "I'll keep you happy and you'll keep me happy." The girl nodded - after all, what she had to lose and a fresh start in America would give her life new meaning. That night, the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a lifeboat and from then on, every night he brought her a meal and they made passionate love until dawn. Two weeks later, during a routine inspection she was discovered by the Captain. "What are you doing here?" the captain asked. "I have an arrangement with one of the sailors," she explained. "I get food and a trip to America, and he's screwing me." "He certainly is," the captain said. "This is the Birkenhead Ferry."

I have enjoyed my working life too Ben. Never really got to travel with work in the UK unless you count endless trips from Notts to Rolls Royce at Derby, Filton and Bar'lick. When I came to Oz I worked for a major US owned automotive components supplier with all, the then, six manufacturers being customers over time. I was lucky enough to travel all over the world, mostly USA, Japan, India, Malaysia and many places in Europe including the UK. I moved into the tooling industry and started servicing the USA with small to medium mould tools for consumer products. Then I moved to where we made large injection moulds up to 70 tons in weight and specialised in packages of tooling for various car models in Australia and around the world, mostly USA and India. I have seen and experienced lots of things but my biggest regret was that despite being, at times, only 50km from the Taj Mahal I never got to see it.

Oztalgian 3,334
One of our local radio stations has a music segment every Tuesday morning and the focus at the moment is the 1960s. Last week was 1960 and today was 1961. I admit to having very little awareness of the music then as I was in my pre-teen years and far more interested in football, cricket and sports in general than the pop songs of the era. Apparently the change in the decade was the time that rock and roll started taking over from country music and the crooners of earlier years. I could not remember many songs at the time but later on have come to remember many, such as :- Runaway - Del Shannon Blue Moon - The Marcels Who put the Bomp - Barry Mann Rubber Ball - Bobby Vee Please Mr. Postman - The Marvelettes The Wanderer - Dion DiMucci Barbra Ann - The Regents The most played song of the year was Tossin' and Turnin' What are your memories of this pre Beatles and Stones era? I'll end with this magnificent orchestral movie theme, I have the CD shown on the clip, some great film themes.
