Might just be me but I prefer the Old Shelby Mustang, the new ones don't seem to have any character....

Yea...I love the old Fords, I had a Zephyr 6 in the early 80's, and a Ford Thames Pickup truck, not the big bulllnosed one but the one with the Consul 375 engine and the wipers that worked (sometimes) off the fuel pump, it had a three speed column change gearbox and the rods used to get caught up when the plastic bushes got worn, usually at the most inopportune moments.. my Grandad had a thing about the old Ford Classic, he had the Classic and the Classic Capri, fantastic looking cars, I went for the Bigger ones Like the Zephyr and Consul, always wanted an early Zodiac. My dad was into the american Cars, He had a Galaxy 500 that belonged to Bill Smarts Circus at one time, A Ford Falcon, a Buick Straight 8 McLauchlen Special (hope I spelled that right) the back doors opened from the front if I remember rightly so the doors kind of opened from the centre post, a Studebaker Skylark and an Old Dodge Fire Truck. I wish I had some of them now. My dad always wanted to get his hands on an Imperial Ambulance....don't ask me why it....Beats me...here's a picture of the Zodiac you mentioned, I looked it up on Flickr knowing my luck I found it in your collection....hehe'

Really like your classic Harley there are certainly a lot of them in the U.K.

I worked in the truck plant here in Oshawa as well as the car plant and l love them pick-up's.I used to drive GMC Suburbans for many years now driving a Chevy Equinox that's built here in Oshawa.

Holland's the big place for classic American bikes; as you can imagine a lot of the 45's went over there during the last war and were sold off on the civilian market afterwards. I took mine over there last year, and did a side trip to Antwerp; mine's a WLC (Canadian Army model) and Antwerp was liberated by your boys, so in a way it was kind of a pilgrimage.

My wife and I were over in Canada in 2007 (my sister lives in Kanata) and we came down near you, found a brilliant place in Courtice which specialises in old American trucks;

Really nice guy who helped me get a load of parts to take back with me; we went on to the Barrie swapmeet where i was highly amused to find a couple of Raleigh Runabouts for sale, no getting away from Nottingham!

Just one thing to ponder, why did old Henry Ford start sticking the steering wheel on the left side???? Before Henry did that, America drove on the left. All stage coaches rode the left side of the road when an oncoming stage was getting close. Common sense when you consider most of us are right handed and "shotgun" rode on the left of the driver so as not to blow his hands off accidently......LOL

Check out pre Henry Ford cars, majority were right hand drive cars, the odd few the driver sat in the middle.

Odd very odd...

Gilly had a few rental Fords over the years in the U.K.Cortina's and a few Granada's and Scorpio's.The Scorps were great cars.Now with the cost of fuel l stick to small diesel rental cars,it sounds like your dad had some great Canadian cars,all RHD Galaxie's were built in Ontario and of course the McLaughlin Buick's were built right here in Oshawa at the old north plant they were shipped all over the Commonwealth we still build Buick in the south plant on the same line as the Camaro and the new Cadillac.

Scriv my dad used to live in Courtice l'll have to check out that truck place,the only place l know is Dom's auto wreckers in that area.You mentioned Antwerp Belgium my dad's 2 brothers were in the Ontario regiment they fought from Caen up into Holland,my uncle Scotty was a despatch rider l think he drove a Norton motor cycle, meanwhile their sister's were building Chevy army trucks and Mosquito aircraft in the old north plant.
