  1. Oh! the great memories of Skills Mystery Tours! We never went on holiday so these evening trips were wonderful get-a-ways for us. We got dressed in our bestest clothes, got the tickets and waited outside the shop for the bus (a single decker coach). It was always a trip around the outskirts - countryside- of Nottingham and a stop off at a pub with a garden. A few pints for the folks, lemonade and Smiths crisps for the kids and back on the bus...singing all the way home ending with 'For he's a jolly good fellah" and a whip round for the driver! Skills have been in Nottingham for years....som

  4. Maybe, but the smell that came out of the gas stove if you left a ring on, or it didn't light, smelt pretty similar to Basford gas works. That should get the Health and Safety people gasping - a stove that didn't turn itself off if the gas wasn't lit. And of course, it was a favourite way of committing suicide.

  6. I'm beginning to feel young with the talk of cars and motorbikes. In the first half of the 60s the only transport I was buying were Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox cars.

  7. Yes, the BBC were making big news of it for being such a huge rise of only 4p! It's free on Christmas Day and Boxing Day though, I think. There is a list of toll bridges here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_toll_bridges - another one close by being the Humber Bridge.
