My 7 year old granddaughter has just started brownies this week, which got me to thinking of my own time there. If i recall correctly we had to have six items in our dress pocket at all times which were checked every week by brown owl, these being a pencil, paper, a piece of string and a safety pin but i just can not remember what the other two were. Any ex brownies on here who may remember?.

Heinous offence, punishable by time under The Dome!
And the evil looks and vitriolic comments from any passing member of staff that went hand in hand with that punishment!

Ah, you shop at Netherfield Morrison's as well!
There are also more than a few of that not so rare breed in Derby too. More often than not seen exiting Greggs on their mobility scooter, the basket of which being laden with a fine selection of pre lunch snacks.

will there ever be a time when we don’t worry about our children I wonder)
@MargieHi dont think mums ever do stop worrying about their kids margie, whatever age they are.
And then they also go and give us grandkids to fret about too.

@The Engineermy sympathy to you on the loss of your mum, and especially in the awful way which you describe.

@troggprecisely the point i was making in my post above, for some the vaccine could be a life saver.
-
Wouldn't life be great rr if we could all afford to adopt that blase attitude to the covid vaccine, for some folk though it may be a matter of life or death.

I was morbidly curious about the preparation of the body. You need a bit of kit to complete the embalming process. Perhaps Balmoral has its own mortuary and prep room as possibly do all the main royal residences. They live in a different world from the peasants!
I too had a morbidly curious thought yesterday as to what she may be dressed in. Strange sometimes the things that pop into your head.

It got a mention on the BBC east midlands news at lunchtime, looked a real mess.

Just seen the very sad photos of our Queen leaving Balmoral for the final time ........ in a Mercedes hearse
Yes a very poignant moment and must admit it did bring a lump to my throat.

I wonder if that is the reason it was so forcibly discouraged in children at school in the past. A left handed child being branded as sinister?.

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery LL.

Ah ok, one-nil to bk then.

Did you get a clip round the earole for saying that to your headteacher bk? As would have been the norm back then for such insubordination.
-
@Beekayyou will have to get one those signs that they used to have on a lot of areas of the Castle and the Arboretum when i was a child
KEEP OFF THE GRASS .

Yes i like her too Jill, she has her mothers work ethic and her fathers say it as it is attitude which so often got him into trouble but i quite liked about him.

I think teachers must have thought being left handed was some kind of witch craft back then.
-
My dad can do most things with either hand including writing, as being left handed as a child at school in the 40's he too was rapped on the knuckles with a ruler by teachers if seen using his left hand. Both of my youngest grandchildren aged 7 & 5 are lefties and school nowadays caters for this, even having left handed scissors.

He was clearly very upset and it showed in his face. Under the circumstances, I thought he did a sterling job with his address because it can't have been easy for him. It's just my personal opinion but I don't think he's anywhere near as tough as his mother, his maternal grandmother or his maternal great grandmother come to that. The females in that family are much more resilient than the males. He comes to the role late in life and, if he's not careful, I fear it could destroy him as it did his grandfather. Let's hope that isn't the case.
My heart did go out to him, i can't even begin to imagine having to do what he had to do only hours after your mother has died. I know in the first few days after my own mum died i was good for nothing. And whilst i dont dislike him and wish him well as king, i have always said that i think princess Anne would have made better monarch.

I agree Lizzie he did give a good speech and apart from his hair he did look presentable for once in his suit and tie.

@LizzieMi said to hey arnold earlier how smart and well turned out the new prime minister looked when she went to meet the king in comparison to Boris who normally turned up for everything looking like he had slept in a skip.
