  1. A must. He plays a brilliant gig and a lot of that's down to Norman Watt-Roy on bass. The magic behind "hit me with your rhythm stick"
  2. I just saw that Sassafras are playing at the Diamond at Sutton in Ashfield tonight. You lucky people - I'd be going if I were in Notts. Only £7.50 on the door.
  3. I have a namesake at the Alamo - no not Texas Red ! Closer to home . . .
  4. Walk This Way ... Aerosmith (with or without Run DMC)
  5. Thanks hippo girl :-) I used to go and see bands at Moor Farm from it's opning (in '69 'or '70). It was walking distance for me, living pretty close to it on the Bramcote Hills estate. Good venue at the time.
  6. Hi Hippo Girl, sorry to have taken so long to pick up on your posting. Have you always lived in Bramcote, I mean before 1983? Were you at school there? I was at the old CofE in Town Street from '59-'66. SR.
  7. Us freaks and weirdos were very peacable - I certainly never saw, or even heard of, any fights in the Goose Fair Bar. Maybe I missed it somehow! Mind you I think Teds were way before the 70's.
  8. Here's a good site to help shortcut some of those automated call services . . . Say No to 0870!
  9. I hadn't had time to read the articles myself yet, but you tempted me to take a wee break to look for this one. Cheers Beefsteak!
  10. Further to discussion elsewhere on Nottingham pubs and brewing I thought it worth publishing a link here to The Nottingham Drinker.
  11. She certainly does still. She also seriously took the p*ss out of Lulu who also comes from Maryhill, Glasgow!
  12. I saw Zoot Money earlier this year with the British Blues Quintet. It was an excellent gig - recommended if you get a chance to see them. The full ine up is: Maggie Bell (Stone The Crows), Colin Hodgkinson (Back Door & Spencer Davis Group), Miller Anderson (Keef Hartley Band & Spencer Davis Group) Zoot Money (Big Roll Band) and Colin Allen (Stone The Crows).
  13. The demise of Nottingham brewering was well documented here in 2003 by the BBC but that was before Hardy Hansons was absorbed by the great GK in December 2006. RIP.
  14. On the other hand it's probably just what is billed. Even the Beatles were obscure once. Did you never listen to music you haven't heard of before? And as if there was time to organise such an event in the last 5 days in response to the polls. I think not. Seems to me there's far too many cynics around now. Get real!
  15. .............. The Essoldo at Lenton Abbey. Became a bingo hall. I don't know if it still is.
  16. I just noticed "Picture the Past" has a "map" function but I think it's pretty random. It puts the pub in the bushes halfway up the A52 between Bramcote and Bardills Islands, just where the Baulk Lane bridge crosses to meet the end of Common Lane. I don't think so!
  17. I was looking at PictureThePast and came across an image of this Inn Sign, taken in Bramcote in 1984. I don't remember this at all and the only other reference to it Mr Oogle could find was in a Dictionary of Pub Names. Apart from that it doesn't seem to have existed. Does any one else remember this pub? My only thought is that it might have been a short lived name change for one of the other pubs in the area, perhaps the now defunct Moor Farm Inn?
  18. I'm not surprised at £115.99p.pl !!!!!
  19. According to an article currently runnng on the BBC Magazine website, Beeston's not far off . . .
  20. Hi Beefy, Yes it did say Beeston. They filmed his sister at a house in Woodland Grove, Chilwell and I do know he went to Alderman White but that wasn't mentioned. SR
