  1. I seen some other properties for sale in the city, the other day, they are 5 storey houses that I think front onto Mansfield road, and at the rear they are on Huntingdon street, I think just below the Nags head, they are priced from £249,000. Is the location St anns, or the City centre, either way it seems a lot of money, and there is no decent view.
  2. I was in the car park at Nottingham station today, so I had a wander up to the top floor, to see what the view was like, you can see a lot from up there. Looking down on the station from up there shows how big the station really is. It is also free to park for 30 minutes. You can also enter on foot from Queens road and use the lift.
  3. Barclayon, I dont think many students will use the tram, as there are plenty of buses that go through the campus, as well as the hopper buses that connect the different campuses. The tram is only going through the edge of the university, so not many will use it, and then walk up Portland hill to the main buildings.
  4. There was a sylvia larvin that had the Rose pub at Strelley, about 5 years ago, she is from the same family, I think she moved to Spain. I will ask the wife later, as she knew her.
  5. One of the Larvins had the fruit and veg shop that was down from the park tavern in the early 80s, not sure of his name possibly Steve. He also worked for East midlands diamond drilling.
  6. There is a short time lapse video, on the BBC website showing the repair at Dawlish. not sure how to link a video.
  7. I spoke to the mother in law today, the chip shop was just after Chalbury road on the left side. She remembers the house mentioned but said that it was still there when the Crown was opened, she remembers going to the Crown when it opened, she will be 90 this year, and thinks she was about 14 then. I am not sure when the Crown opened.
  8. Went passed the Running horse last night it was open again, there was live music on.
  9. My wifes grandparents had a chip shop on Radford Bridge road, I am not sure when but it was probably in the late 30s early 40s, I will ask the question over the weekend. My wifes mother also worked in the Crown pub in the 40s, it was owned by her uncle, she used to walk from Bulwell and walk back on her own after closing time.
  10. Nottingham city council are going to start hiring cars, by the hour or day. It could cost you an hours hire to get out of the city centre at times. http://www.nottinghampost.com/Nottingham-City-Council-launch-hourly-car-hire/story-20855414-detail/story.html I read somewhere that the city council are also considering launching an energy supply company, in order to save the residents money. It is nice that the city council are looking after there tenants. what a nice council.
  11. There is an article in the post today regarding a lot of old maps being released on a website. Worth a look. http://www.nottinghampost.com/Online-maps-showing-Nottinghamshire-changed-ages/story-20845643-detail/story.html
  12. It is only a quid to park in the Rose and crown pub on derby road for 3 hours, refunded if you make a purchase, not as cheap as the medilink but not bad.
  13. It is a pound to drop someone off at East midlands, £2.30 minimum to pick up, that is for 30 minutes.
  14. Drifting slightly from the Bestwood topic, I was given a book last week Radford Colliery the Bread and Herring pit. The book almost looks home made, there is lots of pictures but they all seem to be poor photocopies. If it did'nt have a proper bar coded price ticket on the back I would have said it was self done. One of the articles is about a struggling miner, who was given a brand new house at Aspley. 116 wendover drive rent 6s.6d per week rates and water charges 2s.8d per week tenancy starting 4th may 1931 That might have been a lot of money then as they soon got behind with the r
  15. Regarding my earlier post, I was told today that they moved in 1939. 24 Gainsford crescent.
  16. My father in laws parents lived on Gainsford crescent, it was before the second world war, so it would be in the 30s. I am not sure but I think they were moved there from Cherry orchard at Radford woodhouse.
  17. Dyggor Gaylord moved from that site, to a new office and yard further down the A610, I went there once regarding some old mining cable, this would have been about 1998, I dont think they lasted much longer. I think they were open cast miners, that is why they had the large machinery.
  18. The pub on Vernon road is shown on a 1913 map, but unnamed. In a list of business addresses on the back of the map, it states. Carlton john v Station hotel.
  19. There is a thread about Hoveringham lorries on Trucknet. http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=44142
  20. Is it a sign of the times, but they have managed to save the car wash.
  21. Edith Carlin, one of TI Birkin's daughters, dedicated her life to nursing and during the First World War she opened and ran Bayley's Red Cross Hospital in Derby Road. This is in the article in bygones, anyone heard of it or know the location?
