  1. I've found the exact position now...thank you!!!!!!
  2. Cracked it..both Regent Hill and Element Yard.Census says Element Yard off Regent Hill which it isn't.Nearby though...All long gone now,but the Green Arrow is Windmill Lane which is still there. So the address I sought was just downhill from the March Hare(If that's still there of course)and the same side of Carlton Road. Interesting to see how much was still green fields or gardens.
  3. They're not still using that pitch are they?....thought that went out years ago.Along with special discount if you allow your job to be used as a show piece. It's a wonder they didn't offer to carpet your house or tarmac your drive...."Cos we've got some left over from a big job down the road"...nudge nudge, wink wink.
  4. Maid was a dead end pub for years anyway.Like many pubs loadsa space and little used. Major Oak on Rolleston will be next...just changed hands.....again.
  5. Nice one...I've found reference to Regent Hill but not Element Place up to now.
  6. Apart from that Finney never quite cracked the word 'duck'...he never seemed comfortable saying it...
  7. Can't stand text speak that kids use...but it seems it's not as new and streetwise as they like to think...See the last line...
  8. Did some work for Baptys in London once...amazing place with tanks, artillery, plane fuselages, military vehicles.Suppliers to the film industry.Huge bunker there with every type of firearm you could imagine. They sent security men along with weapons when they were on loan to film companies.Busts and portraits of Hitler...shields,armour,pikes,spears...you name it.
  9. I found another mention... definitely Regent Hill It is possible that many of the Small Houses in Sneinton may be lightened, brightened, sweetened—not pulled down. Back yards may be made healthy, and adorned with shrubs, flowers and creeping plants on the walls, flower pots and bulbs in the windows, and trees in the open places. Even Regent Hill and Royal Oak Street look attractive in summer, when the flowers are blooming. All this, however, will be useless unless a vigilant care is exercised in the selection of tenants.
  10. Found some info.... Sneinton Elements. This peculiar name for a cluster of streets consisting of small houses, some built 100 years ago, on the Carlton Road, formerly called Element Hill, was probably given because of the exposed situation on the northern hill. I still need info re post 1 though...
  11. We supplied the South with a couple of warships if I remember correctly...so not surprised if a few Brits got involved.
  12. 'Elements?'....Wonder if it meant the cave houses?
  13. Atkins on the Derby/Burton Road...and I think another closer to Burton was 'Airfield or Aerodrome Cafe' The Salt Box was a big place and I remember a few yards up the road was the original cafe which was just a big shed. Was it the 'Black Cat on the Nottm/Leics road? White Post was a good all nighter at one time.
  14. I thought that was an advert for 'Buy Cadbury's Chocolate'
  15. Looks like a bit of the Lenton Abbey...but that's not the 'city'
  16. Written on the bottom of a toilet door...'Smoking stunts your growth'
  17. The very first 'Ditty' I heard at the age of 5 at Whitemoor was... British Bombers Bombing Berlin Before Breakfast Begins.....and the war had been over 5 years. Seeing as we did the nightime raids while the Yanks did the daylight ones...they were dead right.
  18. My teacher is so very nice, I always take her good advice, She's as soft as bunny fur. I think I'd like to sleep with her.
  19. Dunno about better days...maybe for the rich yeah!....Wouldn't mind some of those porcelain figures in that window though,at todays prices I might just have a decent holiday.
  20. That would be interesting...unfortunately most of the hut sites are smack under the houses not in the rear gardens. There must be other stuff that hasn't been found though.
  21. Ruddy long hair...can't see his ears.
  22. Ah to go back in time with £1000 in sovereigns and spend it in this shop.It would beat Cash in the Attic. Imagine that place nowadays with no steel grilles.
