  1. When it can no longer hold it's own?
  2. Interesting philosophical question Dave. As the old pilots say.. 'Take off is optional.... landing isn't'. I don't fly often enough for it to be 'commonplace' and although I know it is statistically very safe.. it's also bizarre. It struck me more on the way home, when we barely touched land at all after we left Cancun. Sitting in a plane at 40000 feet, 2000 miles from land, in the dark, at night, with only two engines and a pair of wings keeping you up there.. is a weird notion.
  3. There seemed to be lots of them Dave. My money is on some sort of field system, but i really don't know. I'm more impressed that I think I can say I've been in the US. even if it was at 40000 feet.
  4. Buses in Cancun are a hoot. They are all a fixed price of 12 Pesos for any journey, thoough I noticed a few 'locals' getting on and off without apparently paying at all. No worries.. most of them earn pennies for a day's work. Buses keep trying to overtake each other to get the fares.
  5. Then later, I was intrigued by these shapes on the ground. Not sure it it was NC, or Ga, but it was North of Florida. Irrigated fields? Some sort of water treatment? Any ideas Loppy?
  6. Evening Loppy, I was delighted that our flight to Me-Hi-Co took the route over the Eastern US. We started with some sea ice somewhere over Newfoundland or thereabouts.. At first I thought it was clouds.. then reralised it was ice 'shedding' from the main mass.
  7. Back on topic.... These posts were spotted on the Isla Mujeres... just off Cancun.. very close to the most easterly point iin Me-Hi-Co. I reckon they are repetitive.. but not boring..
  8. If memory serves, they were close to the Jn of Haydn Rd and Hucknall Rd.
  9. Just before I went on my hols, I had about four lots of antibiotics for recurrent tooth abscesses. I ended up with increasingly itchy skin, which I blamed on the antibiotics, especially Clarithromycin, but also put it down to being pretty stressed out. This continued while I was away and since I came home has been worse. In addition, I've developed very dry skin everywhere. I suppose this is partly down to sunbathing, swimming in salty seawater etc., but it's really getting to me now. Also a few small patches of exczema on my hands. (NEVER had exczema before) and odd little splits in skin
  10. Steady day. Went to my older daughters to fix a leaky toilet filler valve but didn't quite sort it. More research when I got home and a few more clues, so I'll go back tomorrow and do the job properly. Lovely to see them though . My granddaughter is so cute right now.. always smiling and cheery.. even when she is being a PITA
  11. I've just had another day spent largely in the garden catching rays, moving a few plants about and cutting the grass. The weather here has been beautiful since I got back from Me-Hi-Co. Not exactly sweltering, but certainly not cold out of the wind. Today, I finally managed to get all of my holiday photos off the camera and onto the PC. Need to get a few onto Flickr or somewhere, then I'll try to post a few without getting too boring.
  12. Happy Birthday Sue!! Col X
  13. Strange day yesterday. (Mon) Just home from my Mexico jaunt to find that Mrs Col's cousin had passed away from Cancer and went to her funeral Monday morning. That whole side of the family seems to be very susceptible with four brothers and many of their offspring passing. Not good. Then I got news that my wife's Brother in Law is in hospital and just operated on for some sort of bowel tumour. He's 80+, generally fit as a 'Butcher's Dog', regular cyclist and dog walker etc. Never sick a day in his life.. Latest news is he's doing OK. His Mum lived to well past 100. Hopeful signs.
  14. Morning! Brew.. good to hear you are 'cleared' of the 'Big C', but don't underestimate the potential for 'whiplash' type injury from relatively minor 'shunts'. I got 'rear ended' ( Oooh -err Missus!!..) last year and was fine until the next day when all sorts of symptoms appeared, including numbness in arms/hands, sore shoulders and a very odd sort of anger/short temperedness which lasted for a few days. It wasn't my fault so I claimed.
  15. Walked there from Llangollen a couple of years back. Despite a history of climbing and caving, I just couldn't walk across it and only made it about 50 metres in. The sense of exposure from the unfenced side is weird, even though you'd have to fall into the water, swim across and then climb out, to fall. The fenced side is worse to me. The railings are far too widely spaced and the sight of parents letting their kids wander across worried me sick. I'm sure a small chlid could easily fall through. Col
  16. I've been getting gradually more tired as this jaunt has gone on.. To be more accurate Boowul Old Folks On Tour have all adjusted to the pace. There's no rush to do anything. Going down for brekkie in a minute . 08:15 here. Then a little last minute gift shopping and hit the beach. I never normally burn in the Sun but got a bit sore on my nose yesterday. I suppose when I'm on my back it's a bit closer to the Sun. May not get to the beach tomorrow as our flight is scheduled for 16:10. We've had a fab time though.
  17. Cancun 28 degrees. Bliss
  18. Indeed. Done my bit too. Try 'drossing off' a 50 ton pot of molten scrap lead which has a foot thick layer of wire, bits of brick, old plumbing fittings, general crud etc on the top. Just breaking into it was a nightmare and then just a slog of dragging, ladling etc.
  19. ...and anyway... why did some houses have a sort of concrete shelter. just for the Bin?
  20. It probably wasn't wise long term for the blokes doing it, but then again a hundredweight on the back isn't impossible. As with all weight lifting exercises.. 'good form' is important... I was quite weedy as a youth (still am..) but I could do it. And of course knowlege about things like 'repetitive strain injury' etc., wasn't so hot. When aah wur a Coal Board apprentice, we useter 'ave whole lessons in 'Kinetic Liftiing', to reduce injury from poor lifting technique. Basic principles along the line of. 'Bend knees not back. Back straight, legs together..' etc. When I worked o
  21. In the spirit of the thread though.....
  22. Looks like it Dave https://www.maplin.co.uk/?cmpid=ppc:brand_top_level:brand:bing&gclsrc=ds
  23. I was thinking of getting a Desktop Printer.. but I realised I already have a desktop, and if I printed another, I'd have nowhere to put it.
