    Why?

On the subject of language. My French is limited to what I learned in school up to 1965. Vocabulary has no doubt suffered over the intervening years, but I can still make an effort when required. I find that thinking through what you are going to try to say, before speaking is a big help. Most people appreciate it if you smile and try to speak their language and will forgive errors. I was in the Cavern Pub a while ago . They sell tickets from there for the 'Magical Mystery Tour.' around the places of 'Beatle Interest' ( Strawberry Field, Penny Lane etc..) A couple who were clear

    Why?

As with so many things in life, the correct answer is 'Well.. err.. yes.. and ..no..' Despite my fundamental weakness at Mathematics, I never had much trouble with pounds and ounces, or hundredweights, rods, poles, perches, pecks etc. I even managed to cope with what we called 'Practice', which was a way of laying out and calculating numerous additions, subtractions etc, in £.s.d. However, there is something very satisfying about the metric system, in the way that it easily integrates, weight/mass, temperature, volume and so on. So, for example. 1 Cubic
  3. The GTN in little aerosol spray cans is pretty inocuous. But the stuff in a red pump spray bottle is mixed with glycerine and makes a very effective flamethrower...
  4. Yes I too carry a GTN spray but very rarely need it. Can't say it has any beneficial side effects!
  5. Much better now thanks Tompa. Still a bit swollen but I'm managing without any painkillers now. Just got to endure 5 days of antibiotics and 7 days with no booze but I'm sure I'll cope. Read a lot about this Metronidazole online and the best advice seems to be. 'Just get used to the idea you'll feel crap for a few days.'
  6. Hey Margie, they had me on Isosorbide Mononitrate once in hospital even before I had a heart attack. The headaches were horrendous. After my MI they put me on the stuff daily. Think it was the Imdur branded long acting version. 60mg. I found that the headaches stopped after a few days but sometimes I had to stop taking all my meds for day or so before tests and then I'd have to go through the whole headache thing again.. They finally told me to stop taking the stuff. What a relief! Col
  7. Right. Been to Dentist's. Told him what happened and how a shed load of booze plus Diazepam didn't get me any sleep. When he looked he said "I'm not surprised that's a 'nasty' infection." Numbed me up and then drained "about 15 ml of pus." Wow.. no wonder it hurt so much but it's already reduced the pain a lot. Next up he asked when I was next planning on having a drink. "Most likely tonight unless there's a good reason why not" said I. "Metronidazole is really good for this type of infection.. but you absolutely must not drink on it or for two days after finishing the course.. if
  8. Yep. My pharmacist, who knows me well after 40 years of my moaning, recently refused to sell me Lem Sip. "Not for you Col with the state of your health. You're a walking pharmacy and too much risk of interactions." So.. reverted to my fall back. Hot Lemon with a generous splash of Brandy. Works just as well...
  9. Went to the dentists last week supposedly for a crown, but the 'temporary' filling he put in before Christmas is holding up really well so instead got him to leave the crown for a bit and look at where I was getting a little pain elsewhere. He couldn't match the site of the pain to a specific tooth so decided to just see how things went. They 'went' yesterday.. when that little niggle turned rapidly into agony and by this morning I've got a swollen cheek, a lump on my upper jaw and mind blowing pain hardly touched by paracetamol. Several brandies and 5mg of Diazepam scored me abo
  10. Couple more I forgot.. Saw the Bee Gees at the Beachcomber while they had New York Mining Disaster bubbling under and Love affair, also at the Beachcomber I think when they had their version of Robert Knight's Everlasting Love in the charts. Pretty sure I saw Quo at the Union or one of the boat clubs while they had 'Matchstick Men' in the charts.. but not 100% sure I haven't imagined that. Also saw Glen Dale of the Fortunes do a solo Sunday Lunchtime Gig after they split for a while. The venue was the Deerstalker pub at the bottom of our street. ..Southglade Rd. Also saw The Ayn
  11. My next door neighbour is beside himself with excitement since he booked tickets for his first ever festival at 72 years of age. He's going to Cropredy with his daughter.
  12. Fleetwood Mac at least three times. Jeff Beck Band, feat. Rod Stewart and Aynsley Dunbar. Jethro Tull, Linda Lewis, Garnett Mimms, Jr. Walker and the All Stars, Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band, Long John Baldry, Pentangle, Tim Rose, Cream at Nottm Tech, Root n Jenny Jackson (We booked them into the 360 and lost a mint because nobody believed we had them...) and many many more, including the great Ray Charles. Can't remeber where that was.. Cinema just down from the Playhouse square.. Was it the Elite or the Odeon??? memory fades.. it was about 1962/3.
  13. But is this really the case? I've had advice from Docs on how to reduce attacks of indigestion, how to think about my booze consumption and diet etc. I've also sought, and been given advice on what exercise is appropriate/sensible given my age, health etc. When I was a smoker the line was always 'You need to stop'. After I had a heart attack it was "If you don't stop.. you WILL have another attack". I stopped. Didn't really need to be told.. just needed to find the way.. Docs can be a law unto themselves.. like the one who totally ignored my reporting of my (then) high levels of exe
  14. FWIW. Today seems to have been a terrible day all round on UK roads. Big crash on the M58 near us (Two fataliities) and all of the associated 'knock on' problems. Just all added to the chaos we already have from massive and lengthy works nearby at Windle, which iis causing people to divert through our village on roads not meant for such traffic. Still.. we have roofs over our heads, food in our cupboards etc. These are mere inconveniences.
  15. Looks like somebody (Kev?) has fixed my original posts so now I'm repeating myself.... It's not just an age thing.. honest. It's not just an age thing.. honest
  16. Our first handbill, before we were the 'Magic Roundabout Disc Show'. This was 1968.
  17. Thanks for that Compo. I'll try that method: Seems to work.... So I've edited things above. Thanks again.
  18. Well flipping flippity flip!!! I spent ages getting those pics onto the site. They are all in my Google Photos and I tried to put them in by creating links. But that only gives a link in your post and I suspect many people are wary of links. So, I just opened them in Google and did right click 'copy link location', which seemed to put the pics 'in line'. They were all visible last night. Now they've gone. Weird. I'll try again.. Birthday Card: And again: School Report:
  19. When we were Kids. That was called 'Quick to Seize Opportunities'... or 'Shows Initiative'. Probably called cheating now..
  20. Nope. That would be 'Wanna Be Your Man' by the Stones.. but I don't know what became of it.. Unless you count 'Pasadena', by the wonderful 'Temperance Seven.' But I didn't buy that. It was given to me by a short lived boyfriend of my late Sis. Think he was known as 'Buzz'. I was always in a panic because I was sure 'Whispering Paul McDowell' would miss his cue.... but he never did. Paul Mc Dowell was more than just the vocalist for the Temp 7. He was always on telly. Including ads and stints on 'Porridge'. Died 2016. The r
  21. That's the best toy gun wot I 'ave ever seen!!
  22. Greetings Helen. If your Dad built your house, it might explain my memory of Alan entering the school Lecture Contest with a discourse on Bricklaying and the various 'bonds' used by bricklayers. Col
  23. I have a story about all that, but not for open forum. I'll pass it on when I have more time.
