  1. Very little mention on news media, but Geoff Emerick, who was the recording engineer working alongside Gearge Martin on much of the Beatles stuff, died ( Weds I think) aged 72.
  2. Yep. I'm up and about now. Was out in Liverpool with my mate Picko from Boowul yesterday. Straight into the Cavern where both Tony and Jimmy Coburn of the Cavern Club Beatles were present and very pleased to see us. They seem to like the fact that we are stil 'rocking' at 70 ish and Tony always says "I can't believe you two were actually about when the Beatles started..." Not sure that's a compliment or what? Tony doing his usual set of McCartney songs and in really good voice and Jimmy just along for a couple of pints. Jimmy has a new solo album out soon. 'Waterloo Road'
  3. I don't have a shed. Just a very crammed and untidy garage. I am thinking of getting a shed. Rather like this chap: Col
  4. At a pinch Rog.. you could use Aluminium washers. As I recall the annealing process for that is to smear with natural soap and heat up until it blackens then allow the metal to cool and clean the soap/carbon off.
  5. Just back from a Cardiology Appt. As I expected the Cardiologist has basically discharged me back into the care of my GP, with a general instruction to 'keep taking the tablets'. This of course is mostly a good thing.. though it's a pity there wasn't any point in by-passing the blocked artery I have. Otherwise a pretty boring day. Just taking it slow. Tomorrow I must crack on with the DIY. My little girl is somewhere over Baffin Bay between Greenland and Canada on her way to LA for a work trip. She was moaning for England when she boarded her flight as it's 'only' an A33
  6. Paul, I know you are being missed in Boowul Wethies. I was in there a week last Monday before 9:00 a.m. and a few of the early 'Coffee Club' crew seemed to know you. They wished you well.
  7. Haven't seen Pianoman for some time..
  8. Sunny and warm outside. Probably the last such day until next year.. so I am 'sacking off' the D.I Y for the day and going ray catching instead.
  9. I do recall some 'wag' on the Telly explaining that his house name.. 'COBWEBS' was actually an acronym for 'Currently Owned By Woolwich Equitable Building Society'.
  10. Today I will be mostly repairing the hole in the corner of the dining room walls and floor. It's where the old and ugly internal soil pipe ran down through a 14" x 14" total overkill boxing. The boxing was inch and a quarter thick plyboard, nailed onto 4"x2" timber, itself nailed direct to the breeze block with 5" nails. A right PITA to remove and definitely a bit OTT for a 4" soil pipe. I've fitted an external soil pipe and removed the old internal pipe and boxing. Have cut down and blanked off the old internal clay pipe to below floor level. but this has left an exposed damp p
  11. No joking Ben. In my experience, all that lying about in hospital is exhausting. They are always at you for something and what with assorted kit 'pinging' away for hours on end it's difficult to properly rest. Take it easy at home and don't rush things. You'll be back on form soon enough..
  12. Leaving for Nottingham in an hour or so. A weekend of Bingo and Booze no doubt, though I'm hoping for a bit of a wander in Bestwood Woods. ( That's what we always called them before they were 'Bestwood Country Park'.) There ought to be a good few Cepes about.
  13. Yep. Blewitts, or Bluebuttons. Wood Blewitt is Lepista Nuda, Field Blewitt is Lepista Saeva . There's also Lepista 'Sordida', which is smaller and not as good, but is OK and safe to eat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clitocybe_nuda https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lepista_personata Col
  14. Thanks, they've always fascinated me Rog, and the love of 'Blewitts' which seems to still exist in the old mining communities is what got me started on the 'edibles'. The Blewitts won't be up for a few weeks yet though as they are usually among the last 'edibles', or 'esculents' to appear. We have a few interested people on here and anybody who enjoys walking, could do much worse than to get a decent mushroom guide, as you will see them in woods, fields and hedgerows if you are observant. You'll see literally every colour from white through grey to black, and the whole rainbow, Re
  15. Been laid up a bit with a bug for a few days but late Tues afternon I decided I just had to have a look whats happening up the woods. Think I've mentioned before I was hoping for a good crop of Fungi this year. Took the car to a lay by close by the woods rather than trekking over the hill. Mostly because of the time. It's all a bit odd. For those who this means anything to: Usually the mushroom season starts a good bit later, late Sept at the earliest, apart from the Chicken of the Woods, which usually appears much earlier towards mid-summer, on Oaks. The Autumn season ofte
  16. Certainly look like Agaricus Augustus to me Compo. My only reservation is you say you found them 'out in the fields'. and they are generally known as a woodland mushroom. I've only found them in one conifer plantation in this locality. Could they be the similar 'A. Bernardii' which is found in sand dunes and similar ground? All above said.. it's looking like being a very good year for fungi, going on what I've seen so far. Found a couple of beautiful Boletus Erythropus last week. ( Now renamed Neoboletus Luridiformis) Nominally edible after cooking though I'm not sure I'd both
  17. Amazing for me to hear this after so long. It may be more of a trial for others http://website.lineone.net/~milbourn/HP_SONG.mp3?showpage=true http://website.lineone.net/~milbourn/index.html?showpage=true The old High Pavement School Song... Carmen Paviorum. I think this is the old 78 recording they played to us to teach us the melody in first year. While I was there they had a rather nice electronic organ, which I thought worked better with the 'hymn /anthem' style of the song, than a plonky old piano. Col
  18. Cloudy day turned nicely sunny and very warm this afternoon. I'd just got me kit off for a bit of ray catching when I heard somebody somewhere giving a very good impression of vomiting himself inside out. It turned out to be a young lad of 15 who was now collapsed outside a house a few doors up on the opposite side of the street. My neighbour from opposite was already there and on her phone for an ambulance. I went across to see if I could help. He was in the recovery position and breathing. An ambulance on the way, so I set about finding out more. He'd come from a few mi
  19. My oldest daughter did a 'tandem' drop from 12000 feet while in 'Oz'. Respect!!
  20. Cloudy here .... again.... Miserable end to a stunning Summer.
  21. My Honda also has separate coils for each plug. A seriously well designed system. But overall I have spent far too much of my time fixing cars in less than ideal conditions with less than ideal tools. It was initially out of interest,. Then out of necessity as we had no money. Now I have better things to do with my remaining time. Col
  22. You must be ambidextrous in both feet like me Brew..
