  1. I'm going for a brisk walk in a bit. Maybe 30 minutes as fast as poss. Other things to do. Somewhere in the loft is a brass table lamp which I inherited from Mum. It's clearly made from 'found bits' in a 'trench art' sort of way. Has a brass base, tubular brass 'stem' with brass/ceramic lampholder (possibly illegal now?) and a brass silhouette which Mum always referred to as Jane. because it is supposedly modelled on the famous Jane cartoons in which a rather statuesque young lady always seemed to be getting accidentally relieved of her apparel. Anyway.. I was buying 'clear
  2. Quite amazed how much higher the sun is in the sky.. not to mention the fact that I can actually see it.... Not really my sort of programe, but I watched that 'Masked Singer' last night. A lot of hype really. However.. and I can't recall if I've mentioned this... but it turns out that me and Mrs Mull's best friend's Daughter in Law manages the team which designed the costumes. How that for a 'claim to fame'?
  3. Just typed up a lengthy reply to this and the site went all '404' on me so I lost it. That Mick 2Me was online earlier so maybe he was messing about. Anyone would think he owned the place.. I may try again tomorrow as I cannot be ****d re-typing it now.
  4. Titanium is fascinating.. as are all elements to me...
  5. Best of luck to him Lizzie. That 'V shaped cut out' op was suggested for me a while back as an alternative to a full knee replacement. They've gone quiet again. I think they reckon that if you can get out of bed and walk any sort of distance, that you are OK. They don't seem concerned about pain.
  6. Jill, there was certainly a debating society, but whether it was restricted to just 6th Form I don't recall. The only societies I joined were the Science Society and the Jazz Record Club. A friend and I had to seek special permission to attend the Jazz Club as we were only lowly Third Formers, but it was there that I first heard the true range of talent possessed by Ray Charles.. IMHO, the greatest 'all around' popular musician of the 20th C. I was only familiar with a couple of his chart hits, and ignorant of his huge output in Jazz, R&B, Blues, Country, Gospel, Soul..... but I digress
  7. Am I correct in assuming that Manning was created as a sort of Female version of High Pavement? HP was of course a Co-Ed school at some point, around the 1930s I think. I know we had some strong associations, and useter occasionally draft in Manning Girls to play female parts in school plays, but I don't know the full story. I recall one afternoon leaving the changing rooms at the HP Bestwood site. That was next to the Gym and the showers... and it had the unmistakeable smell of male sweat, rarely washed sports kit..etc. I was only a first year, so I wasn't yet fully 'engaged' with t
  8. As I recall, Gary Sobers got married at the Registry Office on Highbury Vale, somewhere near the bottom of Kersall Drive?
  9. Not sure about the transmission tunnel, as it's FWD, but yes, a lot of stuff has to come off the dash. Annoyingly, there's a compartment immediately below the radio console which is clearly just pushed in. If I could get that out it would allow access to the back of the Radio, but numerous efforts have failed and I don't want to break anything. Maybe look at doing the job properly on a nice summer's day.
  10. I do like electric windows. I can control them all from the driver's door armrest on my Civic, which is handy. Apart from things such as seat belt warnings and reversing sensors, the Civic has few gadgets. But.. they all still work after 16 years..which was not the case with assorted cars I had previously. Door mirror heaters are handy as I always forget to clear them of frost when doing screens. remote mirror adustment too, though they dont fold in when you switch off. My fave is the cruise control which can be really useful..if only to allow you to move your feet about a bit on long r
  11. Just had a power cut. Only a few minutes, but it came just before I got around to re-setting all of the issues caused by the one last night... Just shows how dependent we have all become, and how dependent we are on things outside our direct control. I don't think we even have a box of matches in the house now. Does make you wonder how you'd manage if it all fell apart... I've often wondered whether to buy a petrol powered generator.. but it would only work at home..as long as there was fuel. Scary stuff.
  12. Some days you just don't want to do anything. I've noticed this is much more frequent in the winter as I sometimes opt for what I believe are called 'Duvet Days'..though I do actually manage to drag myself out of bed... eventually. So, after a brisk few thousand steps in the icy gales yesterday.. today (Wednesday) was a late rising, followed by a day spent mostly watching tripe on the telly. I watched a recording of 'Atomic Blonde', which mostly involved a very attractive, but somewhat 2 dimensional Charlize Theron as a 'supposedly' British agent repeatedly and somewha
  13. Hi Oz, I've put all of my CDs and a considerable amount of 'digitised' vinyl onto my Innuos Zen music server and it's still only 14% full. I've also backed it up to a WD 'Elements' 1tb portable drive. It's not so much the thought of losing the music, as it is all safely stored.. but I'd hate to have to go through the whole pantomime of ripping it all again. Just did 'With The Beatles' only to discover it's already there.. from a CD I forgot I had. It will be interesting to see if I can hear any significant difference between a 1987 CD ripped direct to the server, and
  14. I'm not quite convinced by the photo of the Canberra at Boowul Common. I don't recognise the two 'odd pitched' roofs of houses behind. I doubt anything much has changed that side of St Alban's Rd in the interim. However, I can't recall exactly when we moved to Southglade Rd.. very close to Boowul common. I was born Feb 1949, so would have been 1 in Feb 50, I reckon I was maybe 1-3 years old when we moved.. so it's a close call. Also, the cockpit of the downed aircraft does not look like that f a Canberra. Any other thoughts?
  15. I've just spent an hour or so 'ripping' my brand new D'Agostini re-press of the Beatles first album 'Please Please Me' to digital from vinyl. I have all of the Beatles output on vinyl and am steadily getting round to ripping it to my music server and to CD for the car. Because I'm taking it from vinyl replay it obviously has to be done in 'real time'.. not like just dragging and dropping some file. So.. I listen as I go.. It dawned on me that although I know every one of the songs on 'Please Please Me' inside out.. it must be at the very least 55 years since I last sat

  17. If you can find the tunnel.. or any remaining shaft, on Google Maps satelite view, simply zoom in as close as you can without losing too much definition. Then copy the address in the address bar at the top and post it here.
  18. Could be right Beekay. Blue skies came and went. I spotted a twin engined jet flying low towards L'pool. Quick check on Flightradar 24 showed it to be Ryanair flight from Stockholm to Stanstead which had headed towards Stanstead, turned north west and circled Birmingham a few times before landing at Liverpool. Passengers must have been dizzy by then. Back to squally showers now.

  20. Huge improvement here in the last hour. Skies clearing, wind dropping.. Sun out etc.. but I believe more 'fronts' are due.
  21. PP. My experience from both exhibiting at, and visiting hi-fi shows, is that you don't tend to sell anything expensive at the show... though you may sell smaller accessories etc. But if you do it right.. you spread the word and in a very real sense, if you aren't advertising your wares one way or another. you don't exist in the minds of your target audience. Also worth trying to get the attention of whoever is there from the specialist press. If you are lucky they may mention you in their show report. That sort of thing. And of course the bar is jusrt as important as the formal show areas
  22. A touch breezy here in the Grand Duchy. We do tend to cop it as there's not much between us the Liverpool Bay, so we are the first high ground that the weather hits. Over the years most people have lost ridge tiles, aerials and other bits and pieces. We've also had two chimneys blown down in our little cul de sac alone. In my neighbour's case the chimney came off, half smashed through the main roof then the rest fell onto the canopy roof below smashing that up before proceeding to fall onto the bonnet of his car below. That was Christmas Eve some years back. Next door to him, another n
