  1. I have just acquired a 50" scale map of Retford dated 1959 showing the railway there including the railways crossing & both engine sheds(both had the same code of 36E)
  2. The old course of the Trent was about a mile further up stream near Colwick Hall. There is a lock & weir at this point, It was an old pit I fished it was just west of the railway bridge(about 100 yards) at Rectory Junction. If the fishing was none too good on the day it was only a minuets walk from the Trent it's self.
  3. Allotment has gone berresk now getting 3-4lbs of beans a day. Beetroot, turnips, spinach, cabbage & sweet corn all doing well. Potatoes though are non too good this year & I may have to buy before Christmas instead of March time.
  4. Good ????? Trevor, Up early? not really it's goes back to the days when I had to get up for work (7.30 start but a 45min walk)25 years in the same place. Re gravel pits do you remember the ones north of the River Trent near Colwick sidings they were opposite Ratcliffe on Trent. With one exception they were not there in 1950. The oldest pit was to the west of the railway just north of the river.(on my 1950 map)
  5. I have an "Ordnance Survey" map sheet 112 dated 1950 & there is only one very small lake at Holme Pierrepont And another dated 1968 when the workings were at their fullest extent. and there was a lake where the rowing course was built so something was "filled in" Something in the back of my mind tells me I fished here in the early 60s

  16. The good thing about a forum is you only have to let people know things about yourself that you want them to know. If you don't tell people where you live you could be anywhere on the planet. And if you don't issue a photograph of your self or use your real name..........................You could be famous and no one would know. So advice if you don't want people to know certain aspects of you self don't tell the world by posting it on here.
  17. I've just realised some of the quick keys don't appear work on this forum they certainly do on others Sorry for this folks
  18. Adding to my above post I have not noticed any thing anti gay while I have been a member of this forum. One other small point IF anyone is offended by a posting they can always report it to admin giving their reasons and if justified admin will remove the offending post I have had posts removed on other forums I am a member of.
  19. I have an actively gay stepson his boy friend(from Denmark) stays here(they share the same bed) as often as he can so I have no issue with homosexuality. And I have not noticed anything anti gay on this forum.
