  3. Daisy that was her name not Dolly or Doll, yes I remember her well very friendly as I said, It's a shame those day's can't come back when everyone bid everyone a good night at the end of the evening instead of some clowns waiting in a dark space to mug you, or am I looking through rose tinted glasses? No don't answer that one, I'll keep hold of me memories Rog

  6. Kev, If ever you are out that way there's a nice preserved two seat lightning at the gate to the Wainfleet golf club. I have a picture somewhere I'll try to up load it Rog, PS are you coming over on Wednesday
  7. Ayup Phsychogsy, I used to go in the Colliers in the 70s, nice little pub very friendly people that ran it, I remember the landlady always served in the bar, think her name was Dolly or Doll or Dot, long time ago now but did have some good nights in there Rog
  8. Hi Kev, Wainfleet's in Lincolnshire between Boston and Skeg Rog
  9. Tragic news as you say, how did it happen air show, practice, testing? Rog
  10. Thats the one Paulus, I think the landlord was named Mr Goodhall or some relations of theirs but not sure, many years ago now, anyhow whoever they was they were big pals of me grand mother and grand father and every time we visited Skeg we had to go and see them, I was only a nipper and they would insist on me having a glass of Coke with ice in it, yuk Rog
  11. The Shades at Skeg was Shipstones I think , run by a couple from Nottingham, the Meadows I believe Rog
  12. I am doing most of what you say Bip apart from the porridge stuff but got the memsahib to pick some up from the Tesco this week so that will be in my eating regime for next week, Fynger, I gave up the Ramapril and Statins after our HR dept accused me of being a sciver last year when I was signed off because of fear of heart attack or stroke (not bad eh? not a day off sick in thirty years,)started taking the Folic acid for the cholestorol though Rog

Bumping this one back to trains, a couple of week ago we decided to spend Christmas in Scotland so went on line to check fares, bus/coach first for the two of us return Lincoln to Edinburgh £147.50 12hrs with a 100 minute stop in Birmingham. checked train fare Newark to Edinburgh, £150 reserved seats, forward facing, leave 07.48 arrive 12.08, thought about it for a few minutes and went on line again to book the train, WOW!! it's gone down to £133 for both of us, train booked and looking forward to Christmas Rog
  14. Thanks for that Bip, it's good to get some support from someone like yourself who has been there and done that, is there any foods to keep away from apart from the obvious sausage and bacon? Rog
  15. Ayup Ashley, Food and drink intake per day consists of, first thing, 1/2 cup of coffee, no more for the rest of the day, break time, a few scoops of the John West tuna and pasta salad, swig of Lucozade, lunch, few more scoops of John West and another swig of Lucozade, dinner when I get home, baked potato with beans and coleslaw, that's it. I agree about hard work though, when I was a quarry fitter (all my life) I was like a racing snake now stuck behind a desk and in front of computer, like an old slug, still off now to get a few more miles under me belt on me bike, get the trike out at the we
  16. Well today we all had to have the annual medical assessment at work and as you know I've really tried to get fit through my cycling and diet of practically nothing to eat for the past three months, my results were, blood pressure too high 195 over sommat, cholesterol through the roof at 7, weight in the "I should be worried" category and not an ounce lost, lung capacity, not too bad, all in all I can now add depression to my problems, what can I do to lose this weight? I know, lose 50 lbs of useless fat = have me head cut off Rog, I'm off now for a big plate of chips
  17. You're right there Ian, it's on the left side of the road as you enter Billinghay from Tattershall, most of the station buildings are still standing along most of the GN route as you may remember from previous aviation days, I will try to get some pics of them over the next few weeks and post them on here, most have been converted into private dwellings now but still have that "station building" look to them Rog
  18. Rob, re cab ride video, you are quite right it is that one, drivers name was Phil, the inspector was full of information and not just about the railway, By the way I keep looking for Beefsteak when the train passes through Winsford (ha ha) plenty of old goods and guards vans out here in Lincolnshire, keep your eyes open for them when you go through Billinghay on your way to Skegvegas. Rog
  19. Pete, thats not a very nice thing to say to people who share your city of birth, every one is invited and whoever turns up will be treated to a warm welcome just like you were on the aviation day that you attended.I look forward to seeing all who turn up we have a lot in common, this site for one thing so please get back to what you are good at and that is submitting enjoyable and informative posts about our common interests mainly Nottingham, which I for one look forward to reading Rog
  20. You can count me in on this one Ian, I have booked the day off work Rog
  21. Now you got me old grey matter doing overtime and it's just kicked in, there is a similar carriage in a field adjacent to the Cromford canal, Whatstandwell side of the Leawood tunnel on Leashaw farm, it was there in the summer when me and Rose walked the tow path, we won't be getting up that way again this year but as soon as we do I will get some pics of it, I also seem to think there is an old guards van in the same field all tucked away in some old hedge rows Rog, ,PS just finished watching an old Cab ride video of a class 85 running from Euston to Liverpool and the narrator spoke of an o
  22. Nice pics Pete thanks for sharing, it's nice to see so many younger folk at these services Rog
  23. I agree Bip and I do carry a puncture outfit but it's not practical to repair punctures at the side of the road on these dark lanes, pitch black it is, anyway, new tube fitted when I got back home and off out again the following night, looking forward to the weekend when I can get the recumbent trike out again and have a ride on that. Chrissy, enjoy your mountain bikes they're great fun too, if or before you ride on any canal tow paths make sure you don't need a permit, I know along the Nottingham canal you do but I'm not sure where you get them from. A fave route for our little group when I
  24. Got a new tyre for the road bike (£29.00)and fitted it, put my new lights (£19.00)on handle bars and seat stem and took off around the lanes where I live, went about 3 miles and got a visit from the puncture fairy, had to walk back home, might just go for a walk tonight. Still not lost any weight but feeling a lot better health wise, getting the mountain bike prepared now (not many mountains in Lincolnshire though) and I might give that a blast off road at the weekend Rog
  25. Remember Jack Hargreaves? used to get a ten minute slot after the midlands news then I think he got his own half hour show on Thursday evening after the news, about country life, fishing, birds and wildlife in general, I also think he had a young lad with him at one point, the idea being that Jack would show the youngster the delights of the countryside Rog PS someone has just bought out a boxed set of DVDs of all his programs, must treat myself to that
