  2. Hi Beefsteak, The hawk would be nice, the lightening in the picture is based at Coningsby, No 11 squadron. I will send the Thorpe camp one to you along with the other gate guard at Thorpe,,, A Bloodhound missile Rog
  3. Ayup Denshaw Not been in the Blue bell yet but I will, did you see Thorpe camp just around the corner from the pub? and about 1/2 mile further on towards Woodhall on the right is the site of RAF Woodhall where I am currently working. reason not been in the pub yet is, I don't drink but I will look for some excuse, by the way the bouncing bomb mentioned earlier, there is still a part of one outside the Petwood hotel in Woodhall spa Beefsteak, the camera is always with me now. 4. Was told today the Vulcan has got to do a full display before it can get it's display license? apparently the only place it can carry this out is at Coningsby so I will keep my eyes open and ear plugs at the ready for that, here's hoping it's true Rog

  8. Ayup Rob, Know what you mean but it would have been nice to feel the ground shake as those engines were given their head. By the way just as I had entered my last post on this site from work about lunchtime we were treated to a bit of a flying display from a ME 109, trouble was it sounded like it was fitted with a Merlin engine, nice to see it put through it's paces though. I will try to find some info about the 617 sqdn and Woodhall Spa from the local shops in the next few days and try to get it to you and Beefsteak Rog
  9. Ayup Beefsteak, Well thats blown all my sighting into a cocked hat and I'm stunned for words, could even throw my bins and scope in the recycling bin. That has to be the sighting of the decade and I can't spell JEALOUS loud enough, by the way, I have heard that a Montagues is back in Lincs so will keep you posted (Golden Eagles) WOWWWWWW!!!!! Rog
  10. Ayup Rob, Went up to the Petwood which is a little way off the main road, I was in the company Toyota pickup which is a bit crapped up as you can imagine coming off a quarry so felt embarrassed going up the drive but will go up when i'm in the car, Beefsteak, have just watched the Vulcan take off at 12.15hrs from my office window, all very sedate with no fuss so a bit dissapointing but nice to see anyway, at the moment there are three Typhoons flying around and the sky is crystal clear, I wish you both could be here to enjoy the sights and sounds Rog
  11. Ayup Beefsteak, Sorry could'nt get any pics of the Vulcan today but will try later in the week, It flew over our site at 16.15hrs and headed towards Horncastle and Louth at approx 3000ft in a big arc, it returned from what looked like the Boston area and landed without any fuss at 16.45hrs. Just as a point of interest for you and any other enthusiasts, the site I am working at housed the Dambusters (617)sqdr after the dams raids, they flew the tallboy and grandslam bombs out of the site to bomb the U boat pens, the Beilefeld viaduct and a the Saumer (sp) tunnel, it was also the base that Guy
  12. Ayup Bip I thought it was at the top of Market street but I could be wrong, I do remember going upstairs though fior a frothy coffee, PS I do approve of the pic on your signature a true Englishman, very fitting on St Georges day Rog
  13. Ayup Beefsteak, I've heard now the Vulcan might land at Conningsby next week for Gyro trials not last Monday as I thought although we was treated to the Lancaster and Dakota flying around all day, I will keep you posted on the Vulcans progress and try to get some pics to you if it does come in Rog
  14. Ayup all, Heard today on Lincs FM the Vulcan is coming to Conningsby next week for Gyro trials, looking forward to going to work now Rog
  15. Ayup Denshaw, you are quite right the pub backs onto the quarry I'm working at, some of the guy's there told me about the pics etc in the pub, about 200mtrs along the road is Thorpe camp I mentioned so trying to find opening times for that Cheers Rog
  16. Hi Rob, Don't know about that but will have a look this week, Is it the Woodhall hotel or the Petwood, the Petwood has a lot of memorabilia to do with the 617 squadron, there is also a small pub called the Blue bell near to Thorpe camp I will visit soon and they have a lot of pics and things to do with RAF Woodhall so I've been told, there is a tallboy and Upkeep bombs outside the BBMF museum in Conningsby Rog
  17. Fantastic offer Beefsteak, but will be in Wales on holiday, This is what I miss being in Lincolnshire, the honest down to earth Notts folk Rog
  18. I can remember a gent who would walk down Queens drive dressed in army trousers and jacket with an army rucksack on his back and pushing a small Honda motorcycle, never did see him riding it though. this would be in the late sixties when I was going to and from work on my push bike Rog
  19. Ayup Beefsteak, What about the rivers Witham,Brant and Welland, I go over the famous Kirkstead bridge every day to work. Any way next time your in the Notts area pay a visit to the Newark air museum on the old Winthorpe airfield, they have a Vulcan you can go in for a small fee (last time I was there it was 50p) and I think they still fire the auxillary engines up on a Sunday afternoon. PS. am currently working on the old Woodhall Spa airfield where the tallboys left under the Lancasters to bomb the Tirpitz I think, still got the runway arrestor gear on the site and we have quarried around
  20. Ayup Beefsteak, Not wanting to rub it in but I work for a big international quarrying company who happens to be the owners of the biggest angling waters in the UK, one of our waters is the old gravel quarry at Conningsby which backs on to the airfield viewing area so you could kill two birds with one stone as it were, by the way there is a squadron of Tornado's and Harriers based there at the moment Cheers Rog
  21. Ayup all, Heard a whisper today the Vulcan is flying to RAF Cottesmore next week for navigation equipment to be fitted or tested and the week after to RAF Waddington for brake trials. Hi Lizzie I work not far from Conningsby and see the BBMF planes at least once a week and the Typhoons every day out of my office window Rog
  22. Ayup all, Vulcan XM 607 is stood opposite the spectator viewing area on the A15 and stood near to it behind a blast wall is the new Sentinal, the area around the main hangar is going through some major building work at the moment so all the AWACS are stored at the other end of the runway together with a pair of Hawk trainers painted in black with yellow stripes on the tail Rog
  23. Ayup Beefy, No didn't go on the "eye" much better views from the castle wall, me mate wanted to go on it, but he's led a sheltered life and the excitement of being locked in a glass bowl high above the city might have unbalanced him for the rest of the day. Seriously though it was a great day out made all the more special by being a tourist Cheers Rog
  24. Ayup all, Paid a visit to the city of my birth today, met a mate from Leicestershire to show him round, great day had by both of us, a visit to Brewhouse yard followed by a drink in the Trip followed by a visit to the castle. the city has changed a lot since I lived there but the old tourist routes are still there, sorry to see Garners Hill being buried under more concrete, tried to explain to my mate the three hills, Garners,Middle and Drury but with them all gone and the view disrupted by new buildings it was impossible to get the view across Broad marsh and Narrow marsh as I remember them,
  25. Catch phrases like, "Has he been?" and "I must get a little hand for this watch" I think that was Hilda Baker anyway Rog
