  1. Hi Will try and post the pics I mentioned.
  2. All airguns/rifles here are classed as firearms thanks to the anti gun lobby, so hence why I was looking for high muzzle velocity pcp rifle. I already have my license so can add another rifle easily. I looked at an HMR177 very low trajectory and good range, but again noisy and ammo not cheap. My SIL is a very keen shooter and runs a shooting club in Perth, he has a Ruger .223 amongst his armory which is fairly large, due to different shooting styles he does, but he knows little about air rifles though. Amongst his other guns he has two Sako's, a Remington 12 bore, a vintage ex ww11 Nagant,
  3. Any shooter know what the most powerful .22 PCP air rifle is ? I currently shoot a Bruno .22lr model 452 bolt action 10shot, but sometimes even with sub sonics its a little noisy for some areas I shoot, nod nod wink wink. We are not allowed to fit suppresors here in oz although some do make their own. I want a really powerful .22 air rifle to add to my bunny shooting outfit. Looked at the Airarms pcp rifle but limited to the uk velocity control so I'm maybe looking at something like an Airforce Condor or Talon maybe from the USA. Any ideas. I've eaten a few mixy contaminated rabbits
  4. RGR Some nice cars there, I was walking around a small country town here in oz last week and thought it was rather busy. There was a Rotary club group show on the showgrounds and part of it was a display of some really nice old cars, both US and UK models. Took a heap of photo's with my Iphone so will download a few here later if ok with admins.
  5. Ha Ha , well we are in a little country bush town at present news travells slow here in the outback !
  6. I used to scuba dive under a jetty on Anglesea and get heaps of King Scallops ! absolutely beatiful with mashed spuds and a garlic cream sauce. They were super big so you only needed 3-4 for a wonderful meal for two, mind we used to put a few in the catch bag then as we found bigger one's further along we would discard the earlier caught one's. Also used to get some massive crabs out there. Gosh AlisonC those scallop pies sound good, might be worth a trip to Tassy to give em a whirl.
  7. Just read that Mel Smith passed away on Friday evening in his London home, only 60 years old.
  8. My mum used to get my gear from D & P first, then the Co op in town. What was your sisters name Rob L ? I was there early 60's, left in 63. Maybe pm me if you do not wish to name here.
  9. RGR Some great photo's there ! I still feel the Lambo looks a great scooter even though I do own a Vespa now
  10. A real cafe of the day was The Mill cafe, at Bobbers mill. Was still there as I had a Saus (sausage meat) and egg sandwich there two years ago on my last visit, but not the same as in its heyday. All double yellow lines outside now so very limited parking. Run by the same family for many years, our daily stop on my way to Derby where I was working for several months during the 70's. They baked their own crusty bread and the sausage meat was cooked in a huge flat pan, Oh and the mug of semi stewed tea which was brewed in a huge teapot which was constantly topped up during the morning rush.
  11. Well mine's fairly obvious really but I'm only a beginner, well about 3 years off and on, but I love it.
  12. We're a bit like Carni, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tinned tomatoes fried in pan with garlic granules salt and peper ! Yummmm. Not often but sometimes a slice of fried bread on the side. We only have this concoction maybe once a month at most though as a special treat as I'm watching my weight ! My other must have occasionally is chips and egg, which was my favorite from my childhood years and still is. I can always manage roast pork, home made sage and onion stuffing and lots of crackling anytime though. Did I say I was watching my weight ! I am really :-)
  13. I read somewhere last year that Tesco were doing their utmost to get into Oz and had been in negotiations to do so. Obviously our big two, Coles and Woollies are doing their best to stop them as the love having virtually no competition. Aldi are only in the Eastern states but do give the big two a run with some great specials. We love Aldi bacon ! as its the nearest thing to English bacon I have tasted in over 25 years !
  14. Travelling full time in our rv, we tend to live on a budget all the time, but thats not to say we do not eat well ! if anything we eat bettet than when we are back in home. We shop at farmers markets where available, eat things in season. A chicken gives us at least 3 meals, one roasted meal, one sandwiches next day and maybe one or two in a casserole or soup. I fish so we eat a fair bit of that and its basicly free, or the cost of my bait. I get fresh water crayfish again free. We buy whole fillet steak on special and slice and vacuum pack then freeze. I have just discovered hot smoked sa
  15. As a kid we got malt vinegar, loose from the fish mongers shop, it came in an oak barrel, I used to go down for my mum with a bottle and get a pint, on the way home I would probably drink a third of it ! Mum used to say I'd rot my stomach ! Very big here in oz at the moment is vegatable juicing, its supposed to detox and clean the body, and is an aid to losing weight. One of my daughters is currently on a 7 day veggie juice only fast ! she does it fairly regularly and is convinced of the health benefits from it. She recons after a couple of days she actually "craves" the juice which she fr
  16. I'm sure my aunt used to add something else to the ground up beef to her potted meat, but cannot for the life of me remember what. Otherwise it would just taste of beef and nothing else but the butter and salt ? I used to turn the old mincer while she pushed the meat through. On one of the recipes I found on the net was a supposedly old Yorkshire one, with a teaspoon of ground mace and a teaspoon of anchovy essence. Then the butter bit. Not a clue what Mace tastes like. When we were in Nottm last I bought some pre packed potted meat from Morrisons at Netherfield and it was passable on crus
  17. Should have said too, my brothers favourite was cold baked bean sandwiches well salted ! Yuk !! Mind I used to eat raw quaker oats and sugar in a cup and sometimes a spoon of cocao !
  18. Gran used to make pigs head brawn, she'd boil a half head for hours then spend an hour or so picking every scrap and placing in a large white basin, the juice was poured in and a small plate placed ontop with a bean tin on it to press it. Looked and smelled horrible, but when cooled on the pantry slab it was tipped out and carved in slices for tea. We used to buy Haslett from Pork Farms, dads favourite Friday night tea was fried chitterlings, I used to love em till I knew what they were ! then never ate them again. Potted meat and potted salmon were another two staples for us kids, get it
  19. My dads passion was his tomato's and his dahlia's, often remember just walking down the garden and picking a few ripe tomatoe's for my tea. The smell of them always brings back that memory. The store bought toms have no flavour at all compared to the home grown variety. As for "Dejavu" moments, I often see someone and have to blink to remind myself that its not them ! but maybe someone similar or in a similar set of clothes. Having said that I was sitting fishing one day on a jetty and a chap walked past me and I thought wow that looks like my brothers mate from Nottm, and yes it was him !
  20. Before I left school I worked a paper round in the mornings(better pay than evening round) then ran deliveries for Marsdens after school on their grocers bike with the basket up front. Then mum got me a job 2 nights a week winding cones for circular knitting machines, was in an upper floor shed, behind Baileys fruit & veg shop on Bennet road, Mapperley tops. Think the owners name was Barry Dempster, must have impressed him as he offered me full time work in his other factory, which I declined as I wanted a trade. Did a 6 week trial, before actually left school during the holidays, with
  21. Seems Arnold and Sherwood always seem to cop it when the rain is bad. I used to live on Coronation road Mapperley and we used to regularly get the road flooded even after the council had supposedly put new drains in to cure the problem, this would be in the 60's- 70's- 80's. Does anyone know if there was any problems on Burton road opposite the old Carlton le Willows school ? as my wifes brother has a house there but is currently on holiday in Spain. Be a nasty surprise to come home to !
