  1. Rowan jelly might be a bit sharp with sweet dishes, carni, but then again it might be really tasty. I'll put the recipe on when I go home next Monday.
  2. Today the Celtic Tree Calendar month of Birch or Beith comes to an end and tomorrow will see the start of the month of the Rowan, or Luis in the Ogham alphabet. Rowan, or Mountain ash, is one of my personal favourite trees, the berries produce a lovely rich jelly which will rival redcurrant jelly and is delicious with cold meats. Whenever I move house I always plant a rowan in my garden along the border line, if there isn't one already there, along with hawthorn and holly hedges. This small yet bold tree is associated with dramatic legends and was anciently regarded as the Tree Of Life. It's

  14. I never do any housework at all on New Years Day. I hadn't heard that superstition, but I had been told that whatever you do on New Years day in the way of housework then you will spend all year doing it.
  15. And just for good measure from his repertoire My granny loved porridge, she made loads of the stuff But never could find a pan big enough So she made it in kettle, but couldn't get it out So we took it in turns to sup through the spout.

  19. So, as many now know, cos i don't keep a lot to myself, I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. At this time I do not need medication and have been told to try and control it by diet and exercise. When the shock and horror wore off i set about reading everything I could about this disease with the idea of seeing if I could make it go away. A recent conversation with my doctor informed me that even if everything went back to normal I would now always be regarded as a diabetic. So first hurdle...Get Over It! Onwards and upwards, if nothing else I have realised that once I have a
  20. It is tricky Carni, especially when going to friends for meals. I am of the type who eats what is put before them and would never comment on whether I should or should not be eating it, which could be my ultimate downfall. I will start a thread on the blog pages I think and put down what I have learned so far etc etc, then it won't be boring for anyone who doesn't want to know
  21. Not so much a resolution as a goal set for myself this year. I am determined to beat my diabetes and so will continue with my new health regime of diet and fitness.......(half a stone lost so far). I have been told that diabetes can be reversed if caught early enough and so I am jolly well going to try to crack it. I'll report back if there have been improvements after my next check up in March.
  22. Happy New Year to all for 2015. Not a bad year for us, though the last few days have been a sad time. I look forward to all that 2015 offers and wish everyone renewed health and happiness.
