  1. Can't remember Andy, I barely remember being there but probably delivered , it would have been a lot to haul from town on the No 25 !
  2. As far as I know you can't upload a full size image direct from your hard drive to the site . You need to set up a web based account to host your images such as photobucket or flickr . Easy to do and upload images to . Once you have done that , go here and read the faqs for displaying photobucket or flickr images on this site. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showforum=94
  3. I may have to take my video down as the copyright police have identified a Drifters song playing in the background of it . Amazing how they detect it , almost within minutes of it being posted .
  4. " and then at 13 the famous Heaf test (the circle of punctures made with an instrument like a pickle-fork) followed a few days later by the BCG shot against TB" I was trying to remember what that one was for . I had the test but didn't get the jab so must have had an immunity to TB . Not sure how , as I don't remember anyone having it in our family .
  5. Can't remember having measles , though I'm sure I had chicken pox . I also wrote in my school diary that I had a typhoid jab when I was 14 , though whether this was because of a school trip to France and Germany , a month or so later , not sure . It certainly numbed my arm for a week !
  6. Apologies Ann , my wording was bad , you are absolutely correct :-)
  7. Bless this message board ! I've been waiting for an excuse to put on youtube my old recording of some of Radio London's closedown in 1967 . I was either living on Woodborough Road or West Bridgford then , so it gives a good idea of the daytime reception in Nottingham on medium-wave . This was done on an old cheap Fidelity reel-to-reel from an ordinary transistor radio and then many years later transposed to cassette...... so it ain't hi-fi ! Also have to admit a boo-boo . Somehow when digitising from cassette years ago , I accidently lopped off the final song that
  8. I may be wrong but I have a feeling that George may know some names of May Kirbys siblings by now . Its probably more to find out any present day descendants ? From a previous online request by I am assuming the same George , going back 13 years , Joseph Kirby married a Harriet Leach in Nottingham Sept Qtr 1884 . May Kirby was born in Jun qtr 1896 . Thats May with a y . She married George Moore in Nottingham in 1921. I dont have any credit left now but I would imagine that if you could search the Census' of 1891, 1901 and 1911 you would find most of Mays siblings.
  9. Another car I had never heard of ....Mochet . Not our "baby" but on the images below there is a beige model that has the same square windscreen and a similar soft top. http://www.google.co.uk/search?um=1&client=tablet-android-samsung&hl=en&v=200400000&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=86RrUcHiMqOn0QW7yIDwDg&q=mochet&oq=mochet&gs_l=img.12..0l10.52292.59127.0.60202.20.20.0.0.0.1.259.2267.5j11j2.18.0.ernk_ir.1.0.0...1.1.9.img.evuPMZXqSDo&biw=1280&bih=800&sei=saVrUbOiCqGm0QWUxIH4AQ Also check out Opperman Unicar , another weird make.
  10. I wish someone would come up with an answer it's been "driving" me nuts (no pun intended) . Even if it's to say it's definitely some sort of home made kit car . I think I have exhausted all the search terms on Google images that I can think of and discovered plenty of old cars I had never heard of before , like Tatra and Berkeley and Noble and Goggomobile etc etc. but haven't seen anything like that one yet . This morning even found myself not following the plot whilst watching an old b/w 50s film . Instead I was looking at the cars in the street scenes , hoping I would see something simila
  11. Firstly apologies this thread got high-jacked ! I have now received a pdf copy of the page about the '63 Beatles Concert from Bygones , using my diary entry from the time . My sister in law is looking out for a hard copy tomorrow , if they are still available . I am amazed they used the whole of my email , mentioning other tours the same year including Everly Bros, Little Richard,, Bo Diddley ,Searchers,Gerry and Pacemakers and even gave back up notes about some of the lesser known names . Very kindly forwarded by LizzieM. She's made my day ! Good to know there are so many helpful people
  12. Thanks Lizzie , Thats the one I sent ! Annoying that they don't even send you an email acknowledging receipt of the email , let alone telling you they are going to use it . I don't think Bygones is published online unfortunately . Well if anyone could scan it or send me a copy PM me .
  13. Bygones ? Being too far away , I don't get the Post . What was it about ? As far as I remember , the only thing I contacted them about was the VE party on Park Road Carlton and then when they asked about anyone that went to the 63 Beatles concert at the Odeon .
  14. As far as I can see the best way is to highlight the paragraph you want . Copy and paste it (or press "Ctrl" and "V" ) into the reply box . Then highlight it again and press the "I" button (from the reply menu box) to make it into italics and put speech marks either end of it......like this : "Wilson Ford Rewinds Park Lane Basford...Still going I believe, worked for them for a while as an electrical fitter, they also had a contracting department, Arthur Ford Electric.." ......or give it a different colour too ? "Wilson Ford Rewinds Park Lane Basford...Still going I believe, worked for
  15. Here in Cornwall it used to be free on Park and Ride with a bus pass but now they charge £1 , not sure about other counties though.
  16. As far as I know the only way to get a third off rail travel is to purchase a senior persons rail card for £28 . We use our bus pass to get into such congested places as St.Ives , where its a nightmare to park as well as expensive . As we are a bit of a trek from our bus station we sometimes drive to a village on route , park for free on the street and hop on a number 14. We've also used ours in Notts and Lincs . One day when we visit our son in Herts , want to use the pass to go into London as the bus goes right through the central areas . Just need to find a place to park at Herts end. W
  17. Welcome John . Where was the L Shaped Room cafe ? I remember going to a late night cafe , after we'd been to the pubs/clubs somewhere in the Goldsmith Street area . I know one of the "cool" guys we used to meet in there was Richard Williams , who was a local reporter and then went to write for Melody Maker before joining A&M Records and now is the chief sports reporter on the Guardian. Be good if he joined Nottstalgia , bet he would have some tales !
  18. When you magnify the image it looks like wing mirrors have been removed and the holes replaced with plugs . There looks like a clip on mirror on the door frame .? Also seems to be a small round emblem on the bonnet between the headlamps . Not that this helps much . Also what colour is it ? Grey ? But the sun and wrong exposure makes it look white on top ?
  19. Had another suggestion of some sort of Allard , a name I had forgotten about . http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&client=tablet-android-samsung&v=200400000&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=E8xjUcu7A4bM0AXX6oCYCQ&q=allard+saloon+p1&oq=allard+saloon+p1&gs_l=img.12...144637.146711.0.148207.3.3.0.0.0.0.204.390.2j0j1.3.0.ernk_ir..0.0...1.1.8.img.oz6EIPUNxdY&biw=1280&bih=800&sei=rMxjUZnQJZCr0AW7iIGYDQ
  20. Looks a bit like Olive from On The Buses in the passenger seat . I asked on another message board and the nearest someone thought was a Tatra V570 front end . Though they don't have an air intake on top of the bonnet and as mentioned the door handles are in the wrong place . There is one model of Tatra shown below that has the right door handle position but the shape of the back end is wrong . https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=466&q=tatra+v570&oq=tatra+v570&gs_l=img.12..0.2372.9688.0.12014.10.8.0.2.2.0.125.780.7
  21. #24 ha ha . thanks , I didn't see that post ......I see Mik is spelt differently to the one marooned in the snow , so maybe its a different one .
  22. Have you seen the newspaper report of the suicide ? There are 2 references here : http://www.findmypast.co.uk/search/newspapers/results?recordCount=-1&firstName=&lastName=&fromYear=1934&toYear=1934&county=Nottinghamshire%2C+England&keywords=%22john+wilson%22 Extracts below but unfortunately you have to pay to see the full article . "MY TIME IS SHORT" GRAPHIC STORY BY EYE-WITNESS SUICIDE VERDICT LETTERS WRITTEN TO A SISTER Two letters addressed to his morning on John Wilson, 64, a retired licensed victualler, of 178, Mansfield-street, Nottingham, who crashed to his de
  23. Welcome Ali . I took note of your post as I have more ancestors called John Wilson than you can "shake a stick at" ! Mine were from Morton/Fiskerton and Southwell though , so doubt there's a connection . My grandad William Wilson however , did move to Nottingham and was described as a barman , at the banns for his wedding (1894) and lived at Wellington St. Nottingham , though don't think he ever got to be a landlord . Years ago I also sent off for this from the National Archives ...(auction list 1897 ) of Manvers Arms, The Hermitage; William Wilson (tenant); includes schedule and list
  24. When I first saw the picture I thought of a Panhard PL17 but then searching on google images couldn't see anything that had that really angular windscreen . Maybe these are too curvy : https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1024&bih=466&q=panhard&oq=panhard&gs_l=img.12..0l10.1935.4946.0.7332.7.6.0.1.1.0.172.563.0j4.4.0...0.0...1ac.1.8.img.YKd48-a1Jds#hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=panhard+pl17&oq=panhard+pl17&gs_l=img.12..0j0i24l3.25209.28360.0.30404.8.6.0.2.2.0.156.545.3j2.5.0...0.0...1c.1.8.img.skE0y
  25. This is one of the random bits of paper we kept in my mum and dads photo album . Its the bill for the party food for their silver wedding anniversary in 1962 . This was about the only party they ever did and think they pushed the boat out for this......... I vaguely remember it . £12 10s for about 30 people by the looks of it ! These prices look good to me .i.e. 36 sausage on sticks for 7/6p , 30 sherry trifles for £1 17s !
