Hi Limey I also joined NCB in 1970. Did my training at Moorgreen and went on to Cotgrave Pit. 8 pounds a week as an Apprentice Electrician, that was good money then.
There used to be a cake shop on the corner of Arkright St / Pyatt St in the Meadows. On my way home from school you could buy a cake for a penny. Those were the days.
My first single was Something in the air by Thunderclap Newman. First album was Revolver by the Beatles. Both bought at Goodchilds on Arkright st late 1960's They dont make em like that any more !
If you go along Daleside Road off Meadow lane and turn into Trent lane (car sales on the corner of mini roundabout) at the bottom of that lane is the river trent. Yacht club is last place on the left. Went there about 5 years ago and it looked familiar. I can remember Colwick Park being swings and playground and penny slot machines possibly a paddling pool.
