  1. Fly I think you were talking about my mum Madge, can't remember Ann though . There was Bonnie who I remember. Think they all worked in Fanny's bar upstairs. She often said she had some lovely customers that she spoilt . Mum worked there for quite a number of years and don't think there was another Madge.
  2. I don't like taking medication in the form of anything but needs must as they say. I've been prescribed Brufen and have been taking it for just over a week. I take it at night as the doc says it will help to make me sleep and will give me relief during the day if I have to do anything ( which at the moment is very little) . It seems to be working but mornings and evenings are painful. This morning I've had my MRI . My neice works in that dept and she told me what I already knew that I have a serious problem with my spine. She's collecting the results for me so we'll see if its changed since Ju
  3. Loppy , it must have looked funny. A similar thing has happened to me recently. Our water pressure has been low for quite a while and eventually found a burst pipe next door. Took old and worn pipes out and replaced with new wider pipes hence the water pressure has more than doubled. Great but when I turn the taps on with the same pressure as always the pressure of the water usually hits the upturned plug and soaks me. I sometimes remember light pressure but when I don't ...another change of clothes.
  4. Carni I didn't have time to wish your sisters well before internet went off for a bit then I was busy. I hope everything goes well for you all. Hugs.
  5. A very belated 80 th birthday Terry. Sounds like you had a good night, hope you remeber most of it. Keep catching fish.
  6. You all could be telling stories about our dogs. Theyve all got emotional and fearful problems. Sushi when misbehaving we ask her if she wants to have a bath. She scoots off and hides head down to make herself look smaller, yet she loves the pool and swims quite a while. Misty when she goes to the vet is fine until we get out of the car, so uphill all the way is a torment, she drags and sits down . In the waiting room she sits on my knee and tries to hide behind me as does Sushi. She's very wary of any dogs who enter, shes curious but at the same time a bit frightened. The 2 chihuahuas are ju
  7. I agree with Jill . A lot depends on the situation at the time. In a way I don't agree with private care but thats the situation here , either you pay or wait months for an appointment that can't be dealt with in A&E. I have had private consultations and had treatment "con la mutua" ( equivalent to NHS)At the moment I'm still under the protection in oncology who keep me content for 3 months at a time. Tomorrow I have a MRI thanks to a private dr who put me on the correct track whilst my own dr gave me pain killers saying that they were what the antalgic clinic started off with, and d
  8. Carni KEEP CALM AND EAT CREAM CAKES OR AT LEAST THINK ABOUT THEM IF YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT DROPPING CREAM EVERYWHERE. Seriously don't worry everythings going to be fine.
  9. You do get used to being and living in another country. At first you miss your home comforts, things you've been used to all your life and nowhere sells them. Different medical arrangements, the language if you don't speak it, no big shopping centres if you don't live in a city, different sizing of clothes, getting used to waiting in banks and post offices as everything is done on the computer and loads of other things that maybe hasn't occurred to you but there is another side. Fabulous weather most of the time even in winter the sun is quite warm even if the air is freezing, food, you can fi
  10. You're right Mary, people only see what they think they see. They don't know what goes on behind the scenes in whatever trade is chosen. Things are a bit different here maybe more expensive for example my husbands assistant chef has left because she went to live with her boyfriend in Turin. Too far to go to work here. Well she was paid her wage and holidays that she was entitled to but theres another thing that has to be paid by law at the finish of their term. Its called TFR ( trattamento di fine rapporto) which in short is similar to liquidation and my son ended up paying out €6000
  11. Jill I'll have you know that I haven't finished my chocolates or my Terrys chocolate oranges. And if Carni sends me her address I'll send her one ....so there
  12. You're correct Lizzie it was called La Buca. It was next to the carpet shop . Can't remember the other side but between us and the carpet shop was a corridor that lead to the rear. This was about 1976
  13. Yes we're having some fantastic weather too but its bringing indoors all sorts of bugs.Flies get swatted as I can't stand them in the house , wasps I shoo them out, they don't always obey though.
  14. NO THEY WON'T JILL. " They might last me til the end if October. Oh and I have 4 Terrys chocolate oranges to get through so lets say mid November
  15. Carni sorry things didnt go too well today but try not to get worried about the next time. Its amazing what a cream cake and a bar of choccy can do. ( shhhh I've just had a delivery from British corner shop, mostly crunchynut cereal for mum but I ordered 3 tins of choccies for me. Christmas you understand Keep ya chin up miduck.
  16. My daughter when she has her hair trimmed and a colour it costs her €80 mine costs me 35 €
  17. Carni What works for some to keep calm doesn't always work for others. Ive had my share of terrifying moments and what I do is to think ..theres others worse than me and they are still alive and laughing so snap out of it and get it done. If that fails try breathing deeply and let the air out quickly. do it a few times and then breath slowly and deliberately keeping yourself calm. It may not work for you but at least try. we all find our own level of tranquility. All the best.
  18. We have a problem now with wasps. In the summer they are a nuisance but apart being stung a couple of times I don't take much notice of them only when the dogs are out. they try to eat them. The wasps at the moment are everywhere but in the air. I find a lot on the floor. They are a bit dozy so suppose they are coming to the end of their lives. Last year I found 17 wasps nests in the shed
  19. having a job remembering how this works and under which link it has to be. If this comes up heres Lulu doing her bit of yoga . Keep your ears a long way from your shoulders.
  20. Staverton girl, I agree no matter how well behaved dogs are theres always some sort of reflex in them. Years ago we had a cross pinscher. A more docile dog you could wish to meet , even the vet said he'd never known a dog so calm. Well we visited a neice in Verona and we'd just come through the gate when a pitbull came dashing towards us. The owners shouted out hes ok hes not aggresive. He sniffed around our dog and all hell let loose. I ended up with a deep cut on my hand requiring 7 sts and poor Max ended up with a punctured lung and broken ribs. The only way we could get him to let go was me
  21. Goood morrnning .Not bored but tired and in pain. I've had a lot of problems with my back lately, its an ongoing thing and will never be cured but lately its been troublesome. My husband called the Dr, not our own but another one who is very thorough and we've been friends with this one forever. He knows my problem but he hasn't seen me for ages. He examined me after he'd gone through all the preliminary questions. The outcome, as I knew it will never improve but can be controlled. However I am booked in quickly to have a Resonanza Magnetica ( I had one last year) and a later appointment
  22. That happens to all of us at some point or other Steve . Welcome you'll soon become a regular. Enjoy.
  23. Yes Jean tell us a bit about yourself. Do we know you?
