  1. No need Loppy I've done sultanas before in brandy so presumably raisins and gin are fine . Will let you know.
  2. I was pretty quick deleting them ( there were 2) then the post disappeared, then came back minus the two emoticons so I thought I'd cracked it but no it came up again then I dont know what I did but it disappeared. Thought....people will think I'm odd, I don't declare my love for someone or anyone online. But heyho it happened.. Love Nonna B hahaha
  3. A few years ago a cousin who lives in France presented me with a lovely hamper of French goodies. When he returned home I presented him with a hamper of all my preserves ( a jar or bottle of each) I appreciated this and so did he and his wife. At the moment I'm trying to use up all my jam, its about the only things I have now as this year I havent preserved anything. Not long ago I had 56 jars of apricot, peach, fig and cherry , also some marmalade, so it takes some getting through and you cant live on bread and jam and jam tarts can you?
  4. Did you see it Carni before I edited? Made me laugh anyway.
  5. Must try that Loppy. I have a few raisins left from Christmas 2016 when I made mince meat and Christmas cake . They went in the banana cake the other day and they were fine, not outdated. will definitely try them could do with a bit less pain.
  6. Nice isn't it Loppy. Thats how it used to be.
  7. Yes Lizzie its a bit of a faff but sort of rewarding when you've made it yourself. I don't know if you can buy 90% proof alcohol in UK but here you can and I've made quite a few liquors with it including Limoncello plain and cream. One year we had so much mint that I experimented and made a mint liquor. It consisted of keeping the leaves marinating for a while in the alcohol (can't remember how long) then strain and filter it. Think we had to wait a month before we could drink it. It was quite refreshing after a meal. I have also bottled fruit in alcohol, even sultanas when they've been in the
  8. yes Jill if you collect it. Previous post... don't know what happened , must have pressed something else when I chose emoticons and now Ive tried editing and it still comes up with I LOVE YOU. Sorry carni We haven't even met. editing corrected. Jill I see what you mean 2 cakes. It must be how I'm sitting. On my daughters lounger settee with laptop on my knee one dog on my left thigh another snuggled up against my right thigh and the other sprawled flat out upside down at my right a bit further along . rereading this it sounds a bit strange but I know what I mean even if the others
  9. I had some really ripe bananas the other other day and it was only a couple of days since I bought them. made a banana and raisin cake. I was surprised as although I like bananas I don't like flavoured sweets. But not wasting them I made this cake and iced it .....its nearly all gone. (salads and fruit tomorrow)will send you some Carni ...if theres any left after tonight. enjoy your rest in Skeggy.

  11. Wine was thought to be for the upper crust. I didn't drink wine really until I was married and it took a while to get acquainted with it. I know what I like but know nothing at all about wines apart from it comes from grapes ( maybe I know a tiny bit more but can't tell you what wine it is ) My son has to know all about wine as it's his business and what he doesn't know as they say isn't worth knowing. In his cellar he has some very special wines at a price that I find unbelievable but he buys them at a high price and he has the clientele that demands that sort of wine. A couple from Holland d
  12. Exploding bottles Jill. I had and still have wine racks in the kitchen. In the winter our kitchen gets very warm so we gradually took the wines to a more suitable place. ( we started drinking a bit more......not really but you know what I mean) We only left the moscato to move later, too late they all exploded all 6 of them. All over the adjacent wall into drawers and the cupboard underneath. The house never mind just the kitchen smelt like a wine cantina. The racks are still there but filled with empty bottles.
  13. We've always grown chillies but this year we put them into containers, We have 6 different varieties. As this year has been extremely hot occasionally I forgot to water them so they are drying out naturally . Sweeping around where they are( our neighbors have a huge pine tree that to my mind is dying but they say no and the pine needles are making such a mess) I noticed that the chilies are quite dry so think I will collect them and finish the process. Temperature has gone right down, the humidity is still with us so don't think the chilliest will be very happy to finish drying outside.
  14. My dad never drank but he use to make loads of different wines including elderberry. Good luck with it. I remember a friend of dads coming round to taste some wine. He only had a small glass full but he was afraid of driving home it was so strong, so be careful.
  15. My mac has this type of charger
  16. We are surrounded by vine yards so that means there are also loads of wasps and calabrone ( hornets) Another thing for those extra hands they will have to watch out because lots of producers take on illegal workers and the fines are huge.
  17. Jill in our village we are the same with mobile phone calls. We have, Albanians, Marrocans, Rumanian, Macedonians, Croasians, Jamaicans , Senegalese, Nigerians, chinese, German and French and any one else that happens to land here. I'm certainly not racist but I think Italy has had its fair share of immigrants including some boat people. Some are really nice people . Its funny when I go to the local supermarket, its not very big but the assortment of different languages is amazing. The surprising thing is that some dont speak Italian very well but they know all the ins and outs of working , wh
  18. Took rubbish out, shall I take a photo? No don't think so. Now the car only needs a hoovering and a bit of spit and polish. Maybe it won't be neccessary if it rains as further down the road we always have a landslide so cars get just a teensy bit covered in mud.
  19. Ditto Lizzie you should see my handbag and my car pockets , the ash tray is also full of paracetomol foil and sweet wrappers, visiting cards , receipts etc. My son and daughter are the same in fact my sons car is worse than mine ...with 3 children what can you expect. Must go and tidy it up before the mosquitoes swarm in.
  20. Always better to check on a place first. We stayed in a place in Australia years ago and we'd booked for quite a few days. The place was awful so next morning we spent the day looking for an hotel that we liked and was spotless. That was a day less that we could have spent sightseeing.
  21. Ben you keep those grandchildren close so you can hear more of their sweet thoughts. Kids say the most endearing and sometimes truthful things. Seriously Ben take care and dont overdo it. Tell you what ...take a recording of your new voice and post it. Im sure every one will agree that it sounds like a dalek. " Ouch...sorry Ben !!!
  22. Wow what a carrot, try making carrot cake with it. Took the eldest dog a walk down the road this afternoon as we had workmen in so it was to keep her out of the way. On our way back I was looking in the open drains and saw about 6 big tomato plants complete with small very ripe tomatoes on them. No doubt some one who doesnt know any better will pick them. The grapes are nearly all ready for the vendemmia, so the roads for the next few weeks will be filled with tractors and trailers full of grapes. The air smells like a cantina.
  23. Compo I think you ought to have charged them -£70 per night to stay there. Disgusting, what courage for the state of the place.
