  2. I still am very fond of Mansfield...i visited last year..and not unlike my town here it is suffering from the economics of our time. People were friendly and the lunch was fine and not too costly. Mansfield was clean also .Mansfield is a great little town..as the US ers say: It is was it is.

E319 BVO..fairly unspectacular Volvo..but the setting is sentimental to my time on Leybourne...most of all this has gone.Boarded the 17 here as a kid for trips to Bulwell Common.This must be December...Peppers have Decs up..as does the jewellers. Anyone recall ouside that Salon..the Jason King picture up on the wall?..seemed forever...as if waiting for sideburns to come back!

I think it is a mixture of both..architecture is a fashion of the time..in some cases.The Council House is a classic design..probably now, as well as then.Like the cenotaph by Lutyens.I think someone posted on here about Post - War attitudes towards almost everything. In terms of age..i..and maybe others are selective in embracing change. I dislike the moderness of the internet..but love the John Mills films and rare blues and rock on Youtube.   10. Thanks Dave..i have seen that...i stopped frequenting clubs quite early...the doorstaff were worse than the drunk punters. We started doing olde pubs like The Loggerheads orThe Johnsons Arms..or pop quizs at Top Spot or The Punch Bowl.

  17. Problem is the cheese would be locally and 'organically sourced' the butter 'churned fresh and hand patted'...the bread..'rustic' of course and other such tosh. Forgot the place on Vic Mkt near me T.shirt shop...cheap and cheerful.
  18. Yep, jonab..by the mid to late 1980's they were going...the dreaded Gastro Pub was arriving...with vastly overwritten menus..with Catering College trained slogans such as: Freshly Brewed Tea. Hand Tied Sausages. And other such price connected waffle and piffle.

  20. Some great memories of Bulwell Common here. I do recall kites being flown on there..but not model planes. Funny thing ...we played on that Common more when we lived in town. Was it me ?..always seemed to be light aircraft above..from Hucknall? I think we had a spirit of adventure then..because we were not worldly wide and had little..anyone remember making a bicycle out of odds & ends?

  22. While we are talking sweeties..there was a shop on Wood st.that sold homemade cinder toffee..my Tutor Bob Gallon always pinched the largest chunk..bet EU wouldn't allow homemade in a shop...big bag for 15p!
