  1. Mary1947, do yo know ah ta play Triominoes then? It's not fer the faint 'earted.
  2. Worra baht Triominoes. Better game still.
  3. Or simply, can't be arsed ! Too much happening in their lives.
  4. Phil, in all seriousness, do you think that one would need an ear for music? I would have loved to be able to play some sort of instrument, to be able to entertain or personal pleasure would be great. To be able to sit and strum a guitar or play a mouth organ, but I've no idea, so make do with painting. Was useless at music at school. My elder brother could play the piano and he couldn't read a note. He could listen to a piece, have a couple of practice goes and then play it. (Don't know where he learned it from, it was just a gift).
  5. Do you know, Freda avenue has jogged me memory a bit more. Once upon a time, when I worked at SPD, I went out on Birds Eye delivery run. I had a 'home freezer' drop at a private house on Freda, (we used to deliver to private homes on 'freezer drops). When I pulled away from the house all my bloody load tipped and fell against the back of the van. The load was all stacked in parcels by the night shift and each parcel had the docket delivery number. It took me ages to get the door open and the drops sorted out. The things you recall, when reminded.
  6. Morning Margie, with reference to hill starts, I should imagine that double decker buses wouldn't be allowed to do that manoeuvre on Freda Avenue, especially by wet behind the ears novices. Once tried it on Breckhill when taking a 'shortcut, frightened the life out of me.
  7. To be quite honest Phil, I was terrified. Never got out of 3rd gear at first, wasn't used to the extra speed. When I saw gaps I would hesitate and hold back and my wife would ask, "What's wrong, why aren't you going through". Kept forgetting I wasn't in a bus. Fortunately, I never made the mistake the other way round and try to squeeze a bus through a narrow gap. Hill starts on Westdale Lane, in a crashbox was the worst. Thought I'd never get it right.
  8. The instructor took me and me provisional licence down to Victoria embankment, showed all the basics and then stuck me in the seat to drive up and down from Trent Bridge to Wilford toll Bridge at 20mph. It was a pre-select gearbox just for me to get the hang of the size etc. After about a week I moved on to a crash box to get used to proper driving. Reversing was done at Trent Bridge depot and hill starts were on Westdale Lane.
  9. I was taught to drive in a double decker. Never touched a car until 3 years after getting me full licence. Just thought I'd throw that in, don't know why?
  10. Nonna, like your choice of foods but alas, not a drop of gravy in sight.
  11. I just had fish fingers, mash and peas. Nowt unusual but nice any road.
  12. Or have a go at Triominoes. Brilliant !!
  13. That's what I thought Kath. Keeps me out of trouble and in good books. Happy birthday greetings to your nipper.

  15. Anniversary Greetings from East Sussex Nonna.xx
  16. I knew how to spend me money back then. Didn't need bus fare home Phil., the YMCA was on the other side of our street. That is, until they closed it and moved the club to join in with a club on Willoughby Street (I think). For some reason, Monty Hind club comes to mind.
  17. No worries Alpha. At least we're both singing from the same hymn sheet. Remember us all sitting round the radio waiting for J.I.S to start. Think it was about 6.30. Who needs television.?
  18. Nibbets were nothing like pom bears, quavers or whatever. They were, in shape, very similar to vesta crispy noodles only straighter. They had their own unique taste. I loved starting at one end and nibbling down the piece like a rabbit. That's why they were called Nibbets. Another favourite when I were about 10, was a cup of Oxo and slice of bread for a penny, at the YMCA. Still have that now sometimes for me evening drink, while 'er indoors has Ovaltine.
  19. And anything for the weekend sir?...
  20. Who are the two signores Nonna? From your restaurant?
  21. Name dropper. You know all the best people. I'm in awe of you. Hero worship.
  22. Shame Col. I'd better watch Seth Armstrong or Albert Tatlock instead.
  23. Tha Archers, is Walter Gabriel still in it?
  24. Alpha, just a quick question. Wasn't the main character in Journey into space, called Jet? and I seem to remember a character called Lemmy.
