  1. Jill, your posts stirred a distant memory for me. I can vaguely remember that as a tiddler at Douglas road school, we made our own hand puppets. Can't recall the show we did but I do remember taking our show to Berridge school and my part with my puppet was as a blind man. All I remember was most of my part required a lot of coughing, not easy when your only about 9 or 10. Still, we got refreshments and biscuits. We, as the cast felt like the bees knees. Done bugger all since....
  2. Margie, it sounds like they're all youngsters bar us. Can't believe I'm 76 next. I drive a mini bus for a retirement village and had a police check cause they are "old and vulnerable". I'm older than most of 'em.

  9. A shot in the dark. Frank, if your still on here, can you tell me whereabouts up from 55bus stop you lived ? My missus used to live next to the bus stop, with her front garden next to it. I used to drive buses out of bilborough depot and driven the 55 route many times. Tina used to live there until we married in 1965. Beekay.

  11. Some very interesting photos on this download. Brought back loads of memories. Assembly hall upstairs, changing rooms below, shared with girls school (not at same time). Could even see my classroom. Going to see if I can capture the pictures for archives.
  12. Action or nations ? Whose gonna argue over a letter N. Remember the pub, the church we used to go to for school Christmas service. I can't honestly remember the pawn broker.. I do remember that come lunch time we all had to traipse over to Cottesmore school where our school kitchen and dining hall was. We also had three extra prefab type rooms, these were for woodwork, metalwork and a general classroom. We could choose which we'd like. I chose woodwork, but I remember Spud Ballet making a replica colt 45 cowboy gun. The teacher wouldn't let him put in a firing pin ! I wonder why ? It would've
  13. Cliff ton what happened to Jimmy lad ? Did he just not bother coming back on or found something better to do ? There can't be many that would abandon NS.
  14. Jill you asked where the school was back in march 2018. So I presume you now are aware. Being a Utopian you must know all around Radford. Thank you for your input. B.

  16. I realise this thread is a while ago but here goes...The school is on the corner of Radford boulevard and Ilkeston road. If memory serves me correct, that area was known as "The four nations", Education, Ruination, Inebriation and Salvation. There being a school, pawnbroker, pub and a church on the four corners of the crossroads of Ilkeston road and the boulevard. In my short six months on here I've not found anyone else who was at that school between 1954-58. Was beginning to think I was the only bu99er who went there. I remember some of the teachers names, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Hallam, Mr. Gunby
