  1. I'm only sorry I didn't go to BGS. Seems I missed out on a fun time. Bugger ! Missed the boat again.
  2. Annswabey, you could well have caught me bus at one time. I remained at Bilborough Depot until late 1967. That's when I moved to Weller engineering on Wigman Road (just below the drillhall), but I only stayed for 6 weeks as I couldn't manage on 5/9d per hour. So I buggered off to Smith Dennis on Berridge Road. The rest...history.
  3. SG, you caught me bus and never said hello. No wonder I've got a persecution complex and a feeling of rejection.
  4. Makes my 2.5hp Seagull look a bit sick.
  5. Forget me question 2 posts up Jill. I've just seen on telly who she is.
  6. I cut me photography teeth on a Zenith E slr. I'm still the proud owner of a Russian Lubitel TLR camera. Still got some 120mm film in me freezer.
  7. Don't know about me mum's divi number but mine, opened in 1964 is/was 188762. Don't know if it's still valid, as we don't have a co-op anywhere near us.
  8. Oz, if your reading this (ya don't need glasses,) Any way I clicked on YouTube search and got the battle straight away. Just for interest, the Houghton Weavers did it and Tom Baker, who's a local lad. Edit..King Harold stood on Senlac field and yelled, "Here! Watch what yer doing with that bow n arra', ya could have somebody's eye out" !
  9. Coincidence that mate ! My missus used to work on a whaler. It was the "Pequod".
  10. I can vouch for that Phil. Last time we went it were a few hundred quid just for the two of us. I used to tell folks that we don't go any more, as the tow harness is digging into wifeys shoulders We must get one with an engine in ! Nearer the truth though is she won't drive the boat and nowadays she finds the locks difficult. Would love to go again but it would have to be with a crew. Wouldn't matter if they were novices.
  11. Who knows Fairlad, your reference to catching the 56 at the terminus, it's quite possible I could have been your driver, as I was on NCT about that time. Welcome to Nottstalgia.
  12. I was thinking of coal for a stove, servicing, blacking the Hull, sacrificial anodes, lift outs for surveys, fare wear and tear that are an ongoing thing. New batteries every 3or4 years, reprints...and the list can go on.
  13. Ben, you've posted without a y.t clip. You'll be getting withdrawal symptoms.
  14. HSR, if you're buying a new boat, you'd be looking at £1500 per linear foot. Then you have CRT licence, insurance, mooring fees, fuel etc, etc,.
  15. It's called, "keeping one step ahead of the law" Phil. Eleven jobs in all mate ! One of them had 3 different positions including shop floor and clerical office. Hope this makes sense.
  16. I worked in the tool room at Smiths for a while circa 1968/69. Just thought I'd throw in a bit of useless information. Don't think they made the foghorn, just the fittings that went on them. Eric Stokes used to work on them. When ready, he would clamp them on to a milling machine and connect an airline to the unit and test at about 120 psi. When fitted on board a ship they would work at 300 psi. Bloody noisy when standing next to one on test.
  17. We had a Jim Sullivan at Boulevard school, among other things he taught R.E. As a butcher's delivery lad I used to take his meat order to his home on Harrow Road, Wollaton. Don't know if it were the same bloke. :-)
  18. Alas, some of us don't have a store to walk to. That and the fact that a letter from HMG sitting on the table telling us not to travel, even to the pharmacy.
  19. I can really assure you Dave, it's not for the want of trying. Had a look earlier today and it only went to Wednesday.
  20. Hiya Margie, unfortunately I can't do much about it when it keeps coming as 'fully booked.
  21. This is all I've ever got from Waitrose...
