President Dwight Eisenhower famously warned the U.S. about the "military-industrial complex" in his farewell address.

Military–industrial complex, or military–industrial–congressional complex,is a concept commonly used to refer to policy and monetary relationships between legislators, national armed forces, and the military industrial base that supports them.

Leland Yee, a Democratic state senator, announced his plan to outlaw the technology which experts have warned could make gun regulation virtually impossible

OK , but to put it into perspective and so as not to start a mass panic !!

You need a 5 thousand pound printer, plus 2 grand for the specialist materials to make the bloody thing, (Cause it won't print off on standard A4) then you need to get bullets , (And I don't know about you scaremongers , but they ain't that freely available where I come from) and they'll cost you another couple of hundred. So for your 7 thousand pounds + you may as well go out and buy a couple of AKs and an uzi 9mm and still have change for a Macdonalds on the way home. !!

You can make a gun far cheaper at home, all you need is one of those hobby lathes, $1500, plus materials,

Atlanta, Georgia, Sept'2011.The price of a 9mm semi automatic pistol + 40 rounds on the street, was $400 or 1/2lb bag of weed.

No need to make them, guns and weed are in abundance, this side of the pond.

That's cheaper than a gun dealers.....9mm ammunition is in short supply at the moment.

One of the stupid things about UK gun law is that you can go into a shop or order on line every thing you need to make ammo.

Books, powder, primers, bullets, loading press etc.

It only becomes illegal when you assemble them into a round of ammo.

As to a plastic one shot, takes 5 minutes to reload plastic pistol. Like someone already said go buy an AK its cheaper.

Another poor bugger shot in cold blood tonight in Birmingham.

AK47's are going for around $1300, problem is at the moment, ammunition is pretty scarce so getting expensive...

Still cheaper than a 3d carving machine I suppose at 5 grand.

Lots do reload, many like myself buy new ammo, most of mine is 22 calibre anyway, I could save my 38 and 30-30 shell cases I suppose and get the reloading gear.... I'm not keen on having can's of gunpowder around the place though, comes in large cans I think 5lb's, that's a lot of "bang" if one has an accident....LOL

Ayupmeducks,

You don't use gunpowder (which can go bang) in modern cartridges, thats for the old front stuffers.

You use something called fast propellent, which just burns unless restricted, as in a rifle chamber. When I was reloading I used a lot of Hercules powders, now Alliant I think. That comes in one pound cans if you can call cardboard a can.

Blue Dot & 2400 for my rifles and Red Dot for my handguns. I used to shoot a lot of practical pistol so coming up to a comp I would be shooting at least 300 rounds a week, every week. I could not have done that if I had to by new ammo so reloading was a must.

Lyman do a great book on reloading if you can get your hands on a copy its worth a read.

I was always under the impression it was smokeless gunpowder used in modern cartridges, I was aware the UK war department used cordite in 303 cartridges many years back..

Died of Natural Causes?

Looks like Florida has a sheriff like Arizona has . . .
Polk County Florida Sheriff - "You kill a policeman it means no arrest...no Miranda rights...no negotiations...nothing but as many bullets as we can shoot into you...PERIOD."

An illegal alien, in Polk County , Florida , who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop, ended up "executing" the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed.

The murderer was found hiding in a wooded area. As soon as he took a shot at the SWAT team, officers opened fire on him. They hit the guy 68 times.

Naturally, the liberal media went nuts and asked why they had to shoot the poor, undocumented immigrant 68 times.

Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel: "Because that's all the ammunition we had."
Now, is that just about the all-time greatest answer or what!

The Coroner also reported that the illegal alien died of natural causes. When asked by a reporter how that could be, since there were 68 bullet wounds in his body, he simply replied: (BEST QUOTE ever) . . .."When you are shot 68 times you are naturally gonna die."

Ayupmeducks,

I am afraid there is no such thing as smokeless gunpowder, its a name given to modern powders but in reality it does not exist.

The change started in the late 19th century and was complete before the start of World War 1. The only think that gunpowder properly known as blackpowder is now used for is the shooting of old front stuffers and replica's.

The modern propellents are so much more accurate. When loading the powder and bullet weights are given in grains, to give you an idea there are 7000 grains to the pound and for my .38spl target load I used to use 2.8 grains of Bullseye with a 148 grain wad cutter bullet.

The great thing is that modern powders will burn at exactly the same speed and give the same breech pressure every time, there is no variance from can to can.

Black powder however will vary from can to can, the speed of burning and thus the breech pressure will depend on the exact mix and how fine it has been milled, the finer the faster the burn.

Mick, one of the most dangerous situations police have over here is a routine traffic stop, the officer just doesn't know what he or she can be facing.

Interestingly, the best thing to do if stopped by a police officer is, turn the radio off, open the drivers side window, and place both hands on the steering wheel, at night turn the inside light on, and of course "kill the engine" That way the officer will have more respect and trust for the driver, ie looks less of a threat or danger.

One very early morning, I checked out a motel in Idaho, I'd not noticed when I drove into the motel during darkness that I was on a one way street, coming out, there were no signs and I turned into an empty street, within seconds I was stopped by a police officer...I did all the above, answered his questions with politeness, he then said "do you know you entered a one way street the wrong direction"?? Of course I didn't, he let me off and directed me off the one way street, gave me directions to the freeway and bade me good day...

Colin, only ever bought "ready rolled" ammunition, I just took it for granted it was gunpowder propellant.

My 38Sp revolver is centerfire as is my 30-30 carbine, but my 22's are rimfire...I have a Brazilian made 22 rifle too that has an interchangeable barrel, came with the standard 22 and a shotgun barrel.

John, That shooting was in Polk County Fla. An area where I was looking at houses until recently.

I was only ever stopped by the police once in the US in all my visits.

It was on Colorado Boulevard Pasadena Ca.

I did a U turn in the entrance road to a car dealership?

I saw the blue lights behind me and pulled on to a gas station forecourt.

As the officer got out of his car, I got out of the car with my hands in the air, in despair saying

"What? What did I do" The officer obviously realized he was dealing with an idiot and did not pull his gun on me.

After quizzing me and finding out I really did not know that you could not 'do a U turn in a business district', and seeing my passport and driving licence, he let me off with a warning. It was then that I told him what my job was and we exchanged stories and parted on good terms, me with his card.

No 1 rule over here Mick, NEVER get out the car until or if requested/ordered too by the police officer, it presents a dangerous situation to him/her, he could well think you're going to attack him/her..Also, if your at the side of the road, it puts his department in a bad legal position if you get hit by a vehicle coming down the road....

Next time you're over here, IF you ever get stopped, follow the guidelines, turn any radio off, engine off, window open, both hands on the steering wheel where the officer can see them, he then knows the risk to him/her is low, they appreciate that gesture...

I got that tip from a retired police officer..
