Cliff Ton 10,483
I'm sure I've read somewhere that - difficult to believe - Rolls Royce tested aero engines there during the war. Cliff Ton 10,483
Is this the same Radford Mill described as being on Garden Street ? Yes it is. The building fronted onto Norton Street on one side and Garden Street on the other side. It was effectively an island. There are a number of photos and other bits in this thread http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10134

Spin the direction thingy round and you can see Norton Street (down) and Garden Street (up). http://goo.gl/maps/pwJDA

Amazing....you've answered a question for me which I never actually asked. They must've been in this building - which is still standing but derelict. At the entrance down the side (the place with the white square in the centre) on the side wall is this engraving of two letters - JK.
Enigma. 1,533
i wonder why they havent demolished it yet , looks a bit odd just left like that , i guess if it was Victorian it would have been torn down ages ago
Guest
In pic one Cliff I think there was a low level brick building with blue old style roller shutters( where the roof of the red taxi is.)
Cliff Ton 10,483
Do you mean a building which fronted on to Alfreton Road ?

Guest
Sorry cliff, where the steel railings are...running in the direction of Derby Road. So according to the article, someone of the Cheshire set owns this building and site. On the whole from Bentinck Road to Canning Circus this is a filthy run-down entrance to our city...as is Mansfield Road too.
radfordred 6,284
And Canning Circus down Wollaton Street even worse.
Cliff Ton 10,483
Sorry cliff, where the steel railings are...running in the direction of Derby Road. I think you mean Alfreton Rd which is the road in the photo ! Those railings are actually going down Highurst St. This is what was next down on Highurst St before everything was demolished. The building which would've been behind the taxi on Alfreton Rd was this.
Guest
Thank you for that Cliff, the mind plays tricks over time doesn't it. I used to think that building with the stone arch was a wash- house or baths!
